GAME ART DOC: AKA NO RAGE PART 1
AKA NO RAGE is a side-scrolling 2D Rogue-lite that mixes traditional Japanense aesthetics with futuristic Neo-Tokyo vibes in a story full of action, agile movements and combat against terrifying yokai.
Aka no rage is a video game project that I've been developing for 4 months together with 6 of my classmates. We made Golden Ashes team to present ourselves to the videogame industry and publish our game as a group.
ART STYLE REFERENCES
First of all, when we started the development of the game we looked for an overall art style .So we decided to go for a 2D sidescroller with perspective like "Metroid Dread".
After that, I set the main character artstyle based on anime/cell shaded games like "Fate Grand Order" or "Guily gear strive". However the background should be quite the opposite, with a detailed render of lightning and with no line.
Finally, I had the idea to make a heavy style contrast between the main character and the enemies. I searched for "Ukiyo e" ink paint style to be used at the enemies design and referencing "Okami" as videogame with that artstyle.
Main character design explorations
She's a fierce warrior who dislikes the modern city of Neo-Tokyo and the people who rejected the traditional japan. However she is forced to help them from yokai invasion reluctantly.
Akane wears a traditional priestess suit mixed with some techwear clothes that make it easier for her to move at combat.
