Western town built in Unreal 4

This modular environment was one I constructed as an introduction to Unreal engine as well as substance painter in the fall of 2021.

This 3D environment was built from modular assets made using Maya and Adobe Substance Painter. The models were built and unwrapped in Maya and then put into Adobe to be textured. The scene is built and rendered using Unreal Engine 4.  The 3D desert environment for this scene was made using World Machine.

The saloon structure was the primary focus of this scene. The building is the most detailed and the interior has furniture and lighting. This building was the first I made and my introduction to building modular assets and texturing in Adobe. This is the only structure for this scene in which I created a fully functional interior with items and completed flooring as it's the central focus.

Like the rest of the scene, the interior of the saloon was intended to be a very stylized representation of an old western structure. The structure was built first followed by the pieces inside it, each piece was meant to fill a specific gap. I began first with the barrel and then built a table as they felt necessary. Afterwards I put mugs and stools to make the room feel inhabitable. Lastly I put in the chandelier at the top for a source of interior lighting which was built using Unreal's lighting system.

After building the saloon I worked on created the blueprint for these 3 houses. The houses are intended to be pretty simple and uniform to appear as a sort of backdrop for the saloon. The buildings do not have interiors but they do have items on the outside to provide detail and give them more of a lived-in appearance to improve the scene.

The scene uses many different objects like the revolver and campfire which can be placed to add extra detail as well as modular assets which can be placed many times to create structures and environments.  The assets built for this scene are intended to be a complete set of items containing all the necessities to build towns like this especially using Unreal's ability to recolor items without disrupting the other elements of a texture.
