The Iron Giant

My new project is about one of my favourite and nostalgic cartoons, The Iron Giant.  I tried to recreate him in Maya, staying as close as the original, so I collected lots of references from the movie. It’s been so fun to model all of these shapes recreating the Giant.

Me and Matteo Ascente had fun with the challenge of texturing in different ways my model and here is his version. He wanted to show a clean Giant, similar to the one of the movie. I simply love that smooth granular vintage surface, as if the Giant was design object of some exhibition. It’s so fun to see it with different expressions! Also I appreciate Matteo’s idea of put him in that pose, he looks so proud.

Imagine a sequel of the Iron Giant where he awakes in a world that has changed but wars are not over yet. So he starts to search for Hogarth because is worried about him. With this image in mind I texturized my model, in a more dark contest compared to the textures of Matteo. I had so much fun with him doing these experiments, I hope you like it.
