A quick and very personal project from last summer. These are my little hypothyroidism monsters!
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in April 2020 and these little guys represents the worst symptoms that affected me the most back then.
I just felt like trying to visualize them for my own sake and maybe create some understanding or just information.
COLDNESS - I froze aaaaall the time! I could wear black jeans and a hoodie while everyone else were melting away, and still feel chilly.
MEMORY FOG - Every day was a blur. A lot of the things we were taught in school in 2019/20 I have to re-learn because I have no idea what was going on. I have had friends tell me things we have done together, without having any spark of memory of it at all.
DEPRESSION - Due to the hormonal imbalance, it can cause depression and that definitely do NOT make the situation any easier.
HURTING BODY - Imagine your muscles and joints hurting like when you have a bad fever. Yup, like that, every day.
UNWANTED WEIGHT - There is no cure for this one and it sucks. I gained 30 kg in 1,5 year and it is so damn hard to get rid of again. I can feel how my movements have changed because of the extra weight and I feel like a stranger in my body.
CHRONIC FATIGUE - Draaaagging myself through every day, only looking forward to get home to my bed again. I would need to take a nap in the middle of the day just to get through it. About half the time I didn’t manage to get out of bed at all.
For a long time whenever I went to my doctors with these symptoms, I was just told to take some vitamin D and eat healthy (which I do). Finally a new doctor decided to take the right blood samples.
I have been taking the medicine since June 2020 and I haven’t felt so good in years! I can feel myself slowly coming back.
Conclusion: Listen to your body.
