I did a test render of some of the textures out of substance. I'm pretty happy with them. I needed to do some tinkering to get the saturation levels of the stock right and a little gamma correction in post.

Update - 3 Feb 2022

I decided to create a more sophisticated light and camera setup for my progress renders, I'm pretty happy with this I think it looks a lot cleaner and shows off the model much better. I'll be posting all my progress updates with this lighting and camera angle going forward.


Update - 15 Nov 2021

Finally pushed through with the UV unwrapping. In the future when the decision is up to me on such personal projects, I'll be trying out a Sub-Division with holding edges work flow instead of bevelling complex objects as the UV unwrapping stage in the latter workflow is a huge slog in my experience. 

Also Rendered out a Turn Table for the completed modelling phase. I'm really happy with how closely it resembles the prop from the show and how realistic if feels this far. I am fairly sure however that the texturing process will be make or break, although it definitely helps to have a well modelled foundation.

Did a little extra work of the modelling side of things adding in all the screws and Rivets I could find in the  reference images.

Finished up the modelling and bevelling, I think the stock might still needs a little work. I'm not sure the bevelling workflow was the right choice, there was a lot of clean up work in some of the more complex parts of the model. In the future I think I'll use a sub division with supporting edge loops workflow. 

I tried adding in some poles here and there to optimise the poly count but I think that was part of what caused all the cleanup work and has also made the topology come across a little weirdly.

I'm pretty happy with how accurate the recreation is so far though!


Update - 30 Jun 2021

I've done pretty much all the blocking, and am happy with it. I got bogged down in detail and I think that may hurt me in some of the details of the proportions. In the future i need to be more disciplined with that and block out in large basic shapes getting progressively more detailed instead of getting carried away.

Amban Phase-Pulse Blaster

The plan is to create an Amban Phase-Pulse Blaster like in Mandalorian to later include in a character sculpt. I also intend to present this asset compsited into some live action footage to practice compositing. 

This is a rough sketch I did to inform the basic proportions of the rough modelling process. I think the stock might be a touch too tall which I will address in the blocking stage.

Here is the reference images I've gathered and thanks to Adam Savage's One day builds I know the Rifle is around 170cm long.
