Choosing a style

The idea behind this project was to make a colaborative card game, with each member of the group designing a compleatly diferent set without talking to eachother with the exception of the style guide.

So, the first step to design the style guide was to agree on what level of drawing were we all comfortable. And of course we went with a geometric style since its the simplest thing we could do while still giving enogh freedom for those who wanted to shine a bit more. (Spoiler Alert: I wasn't one of them.)

We set to gather samples of what would we consider to be a geometric style. This was my input.

And in the end, once we selected the best images from each member, the moodboard looked something like this.

Choosing the format

Now that we knew how the drawings would look, we needed a format for the card to standardize them, so we would have a single deck of cards at the end, and not just a bunch of unrelated sets.

So, yet again, we started looking for samples. This were mine.

And this were the ones that made the cut.

Yes, I know, none of mine made it. But it doesn't matter because we were all on the same page on how the cards were going to look. So we made some prototypes and we found one we all liked rather quickly.

The Style guide

With the standards agreed we wrote down all the measurements, which are a mix between a poker card and a Hearthstone card, and we also decided on a negative style for the colors, with a dark background and a light line.

The Process

So, the final group decision was made and we start working on our own individual designs for the cards.

After the initial idea, we had to gather yet more samples. This were the ones for the Mine card.

Out of this, three are selected to analize the shapes and make a sort of base, that then will be turned into the geometric shape.

And finally, you add it all together in the final version of the card.

For the sake of brevity, I will leave the rest of the cards ordered and without further explanation, since the process is identical.

The Ring card.

The Bomb card.

The Crystal Ball card.

The Dagger card

The Lightbulb card.

The Crown card.

The Spoon card.

The Shield card.

The Balloon card.

The Cookie card.

The Cloud card.

The Clothespin card.

The Hat card.

The Mug card.

Thats all of them, with the development process and everything.

The Full Deck

Here's all of them in one image, because why not.

And here are the ones from the other group members.

And that would be all of them. Check them out if any of their designs catch your eye.
