I made some dark wood flooring pieces that will tile together. First, I made the center planks in Maya. It was difficult to figure out how to line up the pieces so that there would be a good amount of variation. Eventually, I decided on this model, arranged the UVs, and opened it in Substance Painter. I added a wood texture and adjusted it so that the wood grain made sense. Then, I adjusted the color to make it appear as a darker brown. Finally I used the sand storm particle brush to add some slight wear and tear. I wanted the flooring to look pretty new, and I felt the textured conveyed that well. I randomized the seed until I got a texture variation that I liked.

I moved on to creating the edge pieces that will allow the floor to be flush against the wall. I used a model of the house I plan to make. Then I placed the center planks, duplicated them, and moved the new pieces to fit into place. I placed an edge loop at the point where the model would touch the wall. Then, I deleted all the extra faces and filled the holes. I used this process for both of the edge pieces. Then, I brought them into Substance painter. I textured them in exactly the same way as the center piece to make them look like they belong together. I can't wait to see how all my assets look together!
