Hopes and Dreams

This is a story of a 12-year-old girl, June, very passionate about space and stars. She looks up a lot to her astronaut grandpa and dreams to become like him in the future, a space adventurer. Unfortunately, her grandpa loses his life in a dangerous mission in outer space, thus the girl is left only with the memories of him and hope for the future.

Through this project, I want to show how a kid can react to the loss of a beloved person. Children have a different understanding about death from adults and it also depends from age to age but psychologically all humans go through five basic stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and finally acceptance. This picture aims to represent a spark of hope and the power to move on at the end.

I decided to create a close up view to give as many details of the story as possible and to help the viewer come closer with the character emotionally.

I am very proud of the result, since it was the peak of everything I learned throughout my first year in cg, and I enjoyed it till the very end. It was also a project that taught me the importance of time management, since everything had to be done from scratch in 3 weeks, and we had to find ways to be as versatile as possible.
