Devil in the train - Splash art progress (Year 1)

by selachi on 7 May 2020

Hi, this splash art project was one of my 1st year assignments from my university (Falmouth University). I decided to share how I approached this task step by step.

After I settled on the final idea I made few blackouts of the potential final piece from multiple angles.

Then I started to improve the selected one and started resolving perspective issues.

Then I took a break from the project so I could come back later on and see mistakes from a fresh view. After I came back I fixed the mistakes that I didn't see beforehand.

I added more detail and started putting in more lights, whilst trying to fix any perspective mistakes that popped out.

I went on and put the image on the black and white filter so I could fix up big issues that I had with the piece much faster also changed up the atmosphere by changing color palette and adding in more details and fixing up parts that didn't make any sense to have there.

After I had done fixing up stuff in black and white mode I added the new colors as mentioned before.

I removed unnecessary details and added reflections and rock particles to bring out the main antagonist, also fixing up some perspective issues that I hadn't noticed before.

The final result that I handed in as my finished splash art. Now coming back I see issues with the background that I wished I had seen before so I could've fixed them.
