When I was in high school, when I discovered RWBY and Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse. It ignited my love for animation, though I fell in love with videogames when I first played Overwatch. The combination of those two things led me to deciding to pursue Games Design and Production/ Animation and VFX in university.
I started drawing in kindie and continued learning drawing and painting till high school. Moving to the Uni I got a chance to learn 3D and effects and wanted to work in this area as my lifetime career. I recently completed a 3-month post-graduate training at Rising Sun Pictures in Adelaide, South Australia and deepened my understanding and skills with Houdini, Nuke and the Linux environment.
I've known that I've always been a creative person, but what really made me realise what while studying a generic univerisity course, I found it hard to continue so I just stopped, and happened to find pathways into the creative industry. Finding out that the creative industry is growing, and at a fast pace; games, movies, art, everyone all seemed to be paying attention to nowadays, and thought to myself, I want to become apart of this.
After working several years in IT Support, I decided to study a Bachelor of IT (Game and Entertainment Design) at University of South Australia (2016-2020), . There was a games asset course, I started in 2016, which was when I found my passion for 3D modelling/vfx. Bachelor of IT (Game and Entertainment Design) GPA 5.95/7 Rising Sun Pictures - Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting in the first half of 2020. Technicolor Creative Studios - Certificate in 3DDMP for VFX (2022)
At about 16 I realised the passion I had for story and all I wanted was to be able to put my imagination down on that page. I became enthralled with fantasy and horror. I think I began my journey when I did a terrible drawing of my world of warcraft character at about 10 years old. My resolve to work in the industry has only grown as I've developed my skills. Watching Tv shows and Movies I became passionate about cinematography and storyboarding.
At first, I just decided to choose a degree that I didn't hate as my direction of study at university. Surprisingly, my perfectionism has always led me to constantly self-reflect and critique my work. In the meantime, my work continues to be refined and improved. I really enjoy the sense of accomplishment that this field brings me. I believe this is the purest form of happiness. Then, the idea of "it is awesome if I can work in this industry" came to my mind.
I made a really last minute change at the end of my year 12 studies from wanting to be a librarian to wanting to work in VFX. I had always loved film and was always enamored with 3D animated films as a child. The last minute decision to change study/career paths really came from discovering I could actually study VFX at Uni in Adelaide! I saw the opportunity to study VFX at the University of Adelaide and my passion has stemmed from there and lead me to my further study at TAFE SA.
At the age of 7 I was fascinated by stop-motion animation - specifically, Wallace and Gromit. I took over our kitchen table for 3 days to make my own little 'Wallace and Gromit' short. After working in stop-motion for a couple of years, I discovered the joy of live-action film-making and visual effects. The concept of a green-screen just blew my mind, and I knew this is what I wanted to do for a job. Ever since, I've been learning almost non-stop, and I don't intend on stopping anytime soon!
I've been into video games and movies for the entirety of my youth, and only really considered a job in the creative industry once I completed high school. It was during an open day at UNISA where I saw student work being displayed, and CGI managed to catch my interest. Ever since then I wanted to get into 3D CGI.
