Uncover Hidden Talent: Hire the World’s Top New Digital Artists
Welcome to my technical dev log! Portfolio: https://rs3d.artstation.com/ I fell in love with games when I was playing the original crash bandicoot on the PlayStation! They have played a huge part in my life since. After teaching Games Art and Programming for 11 years, I'm now training to be a technical artist at University of Portsmouth. I'm currently playing around with: HLSL, UE5 and Unity Shaders, Texture Art, Rigging, Animation, Houdini, Procedural Generation, Python and C++.
After school I didn't really know what I wanted to do, and found a games course at my local college and became very intrigued into working at a game studio to produce content that other players could view and interact with. After that I got to University where I'm in my third year and looking towards building my portfolio ready to for recruiters to review and hopefully be hired at a graduate position.
The first time I realised I wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry is when i first played Skyrim. I just feel in love with the beautiful and immersive environments. I straight away want to learn how to create my own unique and awe inspiring environment which lead me to leaning CGI and VFX in university. Now i'm really excited to get stuck into the games industry and see what i can create.
I first realised that I wanted to work in this industry before starting college, as I had to pick courses that related to what I was going to be doing at university. From a young age, I've always loved playing video games, but it was only at that point that I realised that I would love to work in the video game industry.
It was when I was half way through secondary school, I realised how much I loved watching movies and playing video games and seeing the experiences that could be made virtually. I watched a lot of behind the scenes work on these projects and I found it to be truly fascinating. So I joined a college for 2 years and did VFX & animation, I then studied the same subject for a further 3 years at University.
I first realized I wanted to work in the creative media industry after the first time I was given a task with freedom of choice on what we had to create, this was my first website project, the process of overcoming the challenges I faced was a very fulfilling experience, I took this even further to begin working on game projects. I then used this burst of inspiration and coded my first drag racer game in unity.
Long term lover of 3D animated films wanted to be involved with it since I was a small child. Forgot about my dream until I was roughly 19 working as a floor layer. Inrolled in university with 0 knowledge, no idea why they let me in, tried every single step with in the 3D pipeline for 3 years. After my 2nd year at university started a 3D and Audio company with 3 other friends. In my 4th and last year discovered Houdini and have enjoyed everything I've learnt in VFX
Around 14 my father spoke to my close cousin who'd began his own start-up company in 3D showroom and development visualization, and I was extended a one week works experience opportunity. It was then, experimenting with 3DSmax and it's tools, that I realized this is the kind of career I wanted to peruse. Through the rest of secondary school I knew that I wanted to make it to University to study 3D art and animation, and now I need to take my skills to the real world!
Probably in undergrad. At that time, I knew design websites such as vimeo and behance, and I had a longing for some artworks in them. It was also at this time that I came into contact with software such as Cinema 4D and AE, and met some like-minded friends who studied together. At the beginning, I just taught myself software as a hobbyist, and I didn't have the idea of working in this field in the future. But after gradually deepening, I began to yearn for this field as a career.
I have always loved creating through many different mediums, towards the later years of my highschool career and into my gap year, I was leaning towards architecture as I enjoyed my technical drawing and visual art subjects getting distinctions in both. Through the gap year, I continued to look into university and asked myself, 'Could I get bored of this?' This pointed me on the path. Couple years later and after technical issues, I am now a 2nd-year Animation Student,
I've always been interested in VFX. It probably goes back to me being 13/14 when I decided to composite the TARDIS from Doctor Who onto a picture of my kitchen. I think I forgot about my love/interest for it when I went to college and started to move my focus more towards photography and videography. I also developed some skills in graphic design. Through my bachelor’s degree, I worked on a variety of modules in Creative Media. I took my MSc as an opportunity to refocus and get back into VFX.
