Round of applause for our sponsors

After watching all the magic created for my favorite saga: Harry Potter. I wanted to do those "tricks", so I started learning first Photoshop, then I moved to After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Maya. Now, I am learning Nuke everyday.

After I would watch a cool movie like Star Wars that I knew couldn’t exist in real life, I would always be so fascinated as to how the illusion of a visual effect was made. As I got older, I realized visual effects wasn’t just a bunch of computer scientists typing in 1’s and 0’s until a final image came out, it was an art form that anybody with a passion for could pursue. After this realization, I decided that I wanted to help bring the same feelings I had to people across the world.

Hello, I’m Martin! I’m a Norwegian junior FXTD who also has a generalist bachelor's degree. Last year I attended Lostboys School of Visual Effects where I further developed my FX skills and learned a lot about the creative and technical sides of a TD. I first realized I wanted to work with VFX after seeing a video online when I was 12. Ever since I’ve been working towards getting into the industry, from learning After Effects to getting my degree and having my tuition end in a year at Lostboys.

I’m an FX Technical Director with a specialization in Houdini RBD, Fluid, Pyro, Crowd Simulation and Procedural Geometry/Shading generation for feature film visual effects. I fell in love with the process of creating photo-real simulations of actual effects.

I enjoy creating procedural solutions for complex problems. With that comes a hunger for knowledge. I have always wanted to blend my understanding of complex situations with my creative energy. Houdini allows me to simulate everything I ever want to imagine while also challenging me with difficult problems that require strong solutions. There is no better job suited for me than being an FX TD.

Sci-fi and Action movies played a major role in inspiring me to pursue VFX. I started watching such films from an early age and I was always fascinated by those action sequences such as car chases, explosions, and destruction. I knew VFX was something that I enjoyed watching and also something that I wanted to explore and get to know better. Finally, I did my research, fell in love with it and decided to pursue VFX as my career.

I first knew that I needed to work in Visual Effects when I was ten years old and I watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the first time. I saw those giant spiders in the scene in the woods and I was both disgusted and awed at the same time, while simultaneously being sucked into the film and transported to a new world. Since then I've wanted to give others that same feeling of losing oneself in a new world.

The only subject that ever fascinated me was visual effects. The way visual effects is used in practically every movie or TV series, how it heightens story-telling, and the way it seamlessly integrates into real world is simply magical. I have always wanted to be the one who created photo-real visual effects to help the narrative process. With visual effects we are now able to tell stories that we could have never imagined in the past. And for me, that drives me to become a VFX Compositor.

After completing a career in environmental engineering while working a wide range of different jobs in Bolivia, I found myself eager to learn something new and pursue a different path. I have always found myself fascinated by visual effects and absolutely loved movies growing up. With this drive, I pursued outlets of education. This led me to instructors who taught me everything I needed to know about VFX Compositing. Now, I am proud to say I am a Compositor.

I think for many of us in this field, inspiration came from films, especially science fiction and adventure films such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, and The Fifth Element. Those films moved my world and awakened in me, not only an interest in watching movies, but also of getting wanting to be part of making them. That is why I studied art direction for film and advertising, and later I felt that I wanted to become more involved with technology, which led me to VFX.

In early 2015, my best friend was working on his first shot and I'd spent hours asking him about Houdini and trying to wrap my mind around how, exactly, you could turn a moving person into ash. We were in completely different fields, and I continued to have a satisfying culinary career, but that time really stuck with me. So much that I spent years researching FX and in 2019, made the jump and haven't looked back.

I am a recent graduate of the Effects Technical Director (FX TD) Program at Lost Boys | School of Visual Effects. I'm currently a CFX Artist at Animal Logic. I love working on simulations and complex procedural FX including PYRO, RBD, Vellum, VEX, CROWD, Procedural Modeling and Shading. My technical direction expertise also includes leading special effects projects for film, video, and commercials from conception to completion within timelines.

Since I was a child I got in love with sci-fi movies and then when I grow up realice that people could actually live from making this explosions, water effects and particles simulation. That help people to see with their eyes things that are only possible in our imagination. With such a great power that is VFX, I just wanted to be part of making people dreams came true and maybe as well as previous VFX artists inspire me, maybe some time I could help inspire future generations too.

After watching Transformer 2 movie

I am always wanted to learn VFX when I was young, Harry Porter is my favorite movie and my dream is to make this kind of movie in the future.

After watching Inception for the first time.

I've been interested for since high school, but was side tracked into a career in environmental consulting for about a decade.

I have been infatuated with the visual effects industry since I was 13 years old. I specialize in Compositing as well as roto painting, CG integration, set extension, keying, and BG prep. Currently,I am a student in the Advanced VFX Compositing Program at Lost Boys | School of VFX. LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/elmo-ragab

There's one time I just realised when everytime I get hypnotized by something that I see with my eyes, I constanly know I'm not just an audience, there's part of me that kin of knowing the beauty behind it. Being different has been the thing that I've been struggling for so long until i looked back to all those years, every master piece that my eyes have seen. Every single of them was so different and unique. Be different to standout and to inspire and to get inspired.
