Undead Knight

For my final CG assignment in Digipen Singapore, I worked on an Undead Knight Character. My goal was to make it seem that it could fit into a high/dark fantasy setting such as the Dark Souls series.

Video Presentation of the Undead Knight character

I first started with the concept of the character. I knew I wanted to work on a skeletal knight character, similar to those that you can see in high/dark fantasy games such as the Dark Souls series. However, the final vision of the character was still not clear to me at this point of time.

I then went to look up images of each different part of a knight's armor. I looked up pictures of real life armor from pintrest and museum websites, as well as pictures of armor that are sold on LARP armor stores.

For the final concept, I chose the images for each part of the armor that I thought would work well together, mashed them and edited the colors in photoshop. This had helped me reduce the guesswork that would be done if I had came up with the design from scratch and helps to maintain believability and a cohesive design,

For the sculpting process, I first started by creating a base mesh for each part of the armor to be imported to Zbrush. Besides sculpting the armor pieces, I also used Zbrush to adjust the proportions of the character.

The gambeson was created using Marvelous Designer.

The final turnaround for the High Poly Sculpt.

The character was retopologized in 3ds Max and the texturing was done in Substance Painter. You can use the slider feature to see the wireframe for the meshes.

The character without weapon contains 14650 Polys and 26627 Tris.
