Forgotten Winds

Our two travelers have found themselves adrift in a planet as strange as it is wonderful. With a local people who offer no greetings, they are left to listen to the wind whistling through the great tree that dominates this new environment.

Update - 15 May 2021

My final update. I had a lot of fun with this and really enjoyed making something whimsical. I went for a more ground based village approach in the end, and I liked how that came out. Quixel was used for foliage and landscape materials.

Second to last update. Trim sheets, and scene iteration in UE4.


Update - 12 May 2021

Completed sculpt in ZBrush, along with texture in substance and retoppo in Maya. I've also created a new landscape and lighting set up to better suit my needs.

My original mood board and reference boards.

I am aiming for a nomadic alien vibe, and hope to draw from a similar colour scheme as in Avatar and similar sources. My hero asset will be a tree host to structures for some of the areas inhabitants to reside in, and surrounding assets. 

Early concepts.

First tree sculpts/ideation - ZBrush.

My first pass on a UE4 terrain. I am experimenting with the new landmass and water plug-ins, as well as a new method for lighting my scene. I intend to populate the final pass with a mixture of photogrammetry and my own created assets. 

Some early models. The bridge no longer fits my brief and may not make the final cut. I intend to have the huts in different sizes with one or two colour schemes to add interest to the ground level.
