The art of TULLUT

This was a solo project I pitched for my 3rd year at TAW. Luckily it was picked and I got to spend 10 school weeks on it.

The original pitch was to make a concept book of Greenlandic creatures.

The creatures created for this project are based on real descriptions of creatures from different Inuit / Greenlandic stories where they appear.

ANGAKKOQ & THE SPIRIT WORLD

The spirit world looks both similar and different from the world we know. I wanted to visually illustrate that by having most part of the illustration look natural and then adding magical components that would lead the angakkoq onto their path in the spirit world.

"The art of TULLUT" is still a big work in progress. I will continue to add new creatures, characters and illustrations to it in the future to develop the world and the characters.

I hope to publish this world and the creatures in it as a book one day; within the next few years.

OTHER CONCEPTS & ILLUSTRATIONS

"Far From Home" was a project that I made for the ATOMHAWK ART COMPETITION 2020. The theme was: The Adventure Begins.

"Inuit with her pack of dogs" was an illustration I made in an elective (duration: 1 week). I wanted to learn more about color and light.

Iloq & Kiska

Iloq means rime in Greenlandic and the name Kiska means pure in Russian.
I wanted to get better at dressing and rendering full-body characters, so I dedicated 30 hours to making a costume breakdown (Iloq). I loved it so much that I jumped straight into making another costume breakdown, which took me 22,5 hours.

During both designs I focused on designing their costumes based on a shape: Kiska - squares & Iloq - triangles. I also took inspiration in different arctic cultures: Kiska - Nenets (Russia) & Iloq - inuit (Greenland).
