Second year of VFX learning

Last year I entered this contest after a year at school and got a bunch of nice feedback from your jury. This year I would like to join with my second demo reel and a bunch of new projects.

Last year I submitted a reel that I made the first year at the VFX-Artist program in Tumba, Botkyrka in Stockholm. This is my second demo reel for the following year, which I submitted to several companies looking for an internship. With this I managed to get myself an internship at IMPORTANT LOOKING PIRATES, one of swedens biggest and successful VFX-companies - which was my top choice. I would really like to join The Rookies award with this reel and a couple of other entries below and see how much I've grown over the year.

Below I have added some separate breakdowns and one or two separate projects that didn't make it into the reel.

You might recognize the model from one of your texturing challenges. Although, I didn't use Substance to texture this bus. I used Mari for this one and went over to learn Houdini and make my first scene there. I challenged myself to match my 3D render and blend it in with this live-action footage I took from another project I worked on earlier on.

Textured in Mari. Rendered in Redshift using Houdini and composited in Nuke.

This helmet-model I got to borrow from our guest teacher Billy Lundevall from Quixel. This result is from our texturing course we had with him. I learned how to use Mixer for texturing this one, but made some smaller adjustments in Mari, before I rendered it out in Redshift using Maya.

Along side a big short film project at school, which was inspired by Simon Stålenhags world, I made this environment. The environment is made using a bunch of different softwares. Houdini for heightfield terrain, Forester in Cinema 4D for the trees, Mari for texturing and Maya to wrap it all up and finally rendered in Redshift and comped in Nuke.

The rings I borrowed from classmate and artist Christian Norman and the "ball-thingy" I borrowed from fellow artist Johanna Gåhlin.

The purpose of this scene was trying to make snow textures look good in preparing purpose for another project. But I ended up modelleing the whole barn, blocking out some objects and then replacing them with megascans. One thing led to another and I just felt I wanted to add a Dinosaur animation aswell. When I was all at it, I decided to make the trees alive aswell. As they can be in a cold and windy swedish winter night.

Made using Maya, Forester, Mari, Mixamo. Rendered in Arnold and comped in Nuke.

World building practice using images for background mountains and 3D elements in mid and foreground. Set dressed using megascans. The skull is textured by me using Mari, and the water simulation is made in Bifrost as a first test. Palms made and simulated in Cinema 4D and then it all finally was put together in Maya. Rendered in Arnold and comped in Nuke.

The skull is modelled by my teacher Nichlas Larsson.
