Process
We had four different genres of music that we wanted to showcase on Sasha's walk: Lounge Jazz, Hip Hop, Classical, and Rock. These were all so different and fun to work with. We really enjoyed the process of slowly turning Sasha's reality to reflect her wild imagination.
We used ToonBoom Harmony to animate and rig Sasha and the 2D background characters.
Blender to build the environment - we painted environment layouts with no perspective then pulled out the faces to make them 3D following Marco Bucci's 'Turn a 2D painting into 3D environment - Powerful BLENDER Techniques' YouTube video.
For the classical underwater scene we modelled and animated the 3D sea creatures as well as lighted the scene to give a calm and dreamlike experience.
After Effects to composite all the scenes and elements together.
Utilised After Effects and ToonBoom for the VFX such as the fire, water rising, and the bubbles.
Our biggest challenge was teaching ourselves the programs on the go and trying to finish our animation in time.
The whole project took us 6 months. Of course there are a thousand things we would like to improve on but we are really proud of what we achieved.
