The Memory Corner

This is my environment modelling. The place that I model is an interior of an old abandoned room with all sorts of equipment. Most of the stuff in this interior is influenced by the Chinese Malaysian traditional culture. As I am a Chinese Malaysian, I decided to use some of these Chinese Malaysian vintage look to approach for my interior design. 

As I said, it is deeply inspired from our Chinese Malaysian traditional look. Well, to be specific it is referenced from our Chinese local stores. Here are some picture of how they look, they contain an unique vintage kind of look, and also represent the unique culture of our Chinese Malaysians.

I found that not many people will dive into our local culture stuff when it comes to environment modelling, therefore I thought that I wanna do something different, something unique and something that gives the audience something new and fresh.

Besides of these Malaysian Chinese stuff, the objects that I decided to model and put into the scene also means something to me, it's what I called some little 'Easter Eggs' that depicts my personal life.

This is actually the first time I modelled this much stuff and put it all in a scene. It's a fun and tiring experience for me, it made my Maya file so heavy that it crashes more than 10 times. There's one time I almost lost the whole file due to corruption to the file, but thankfully, there's backup file and I manage to restore not all, but some of the stuff. It's a suffering process that I need to go through :,) but I learned so much during these problems.

So Here's my breakdown of these painful process on this work. It shows the progress I've been through and the changes I've made, all from scratch...

The render passes that I use for comp includes: Beauty Pass, Z-Depth, AO, Specular, Fog Pass

I hope you guys enjoy my work. This environment model work is unique to me, because it depicts me and my life.
