Update - 30 Apr 2019

Here is the final concept of "The girl who illuminates children's faces"! I modified the wings because I thought that they looked more like a dragonfly than a butterfly. I'm pretty happy of the result! I hope I will have time to make a final update for the back of the character !

Update - 25 Apr 2019

Suddenly I had this idea of : "the girl who illuminates children's faces"

with this Idea I tried to think of all the connected words to this subject:

the children come just for her so she should be very dynamic, colorful with a big bright smile and also have a bit of a clownish style. Her discipline should be kind of a dance and acrobatic at the same time.

I really liked some ideas I had on my previous drawings like the idea of a roller dancer with falling tissue on the arms and also the first hair cut.

While redrawing the character I had the idea of butterfly cape (which makes an interesting shape) and like a snow ball effect, it helped me to bring a story behind this character.

Quickly I made another brainstorming and think about the connected words with the butterfly which were: fragile, ephemeral, gracile. The butterfly represent the ephemeral liberty, ephemeral life which I think suit this character perfectly. Then I thought of an abusive circus master that keep her detained for the profit and prevent her from having a normal girl life. So her dance on the scene is the only moment she can feel alive and where she can do something for others, bring back smile to the children. An ephemeral feel of liberty.

For the next update I think I will detail the costume, I was thinking of rococo ornaments for the wings. I will also make a back view of the costume.

Few ideas of costume

Update - 22 Apr 2019

For this challenge I will make a female character. I don't know yet if it will be an acrobat, thight rope acrobat or circus master. The circles on the right are some research that help me to organise everything in my head and find some ideas . Sorry if it's in french it's more spontaneus for me to think in this language, but basically there is words that will qualify some ideas like "no corset", "glitter". I also gathered a lot of references like photography of cirque du soleil, models, make up, circus specific patterns, etc...

Then I made some shapes of characters because in general it helps me to find good design, but here I had nothing that inspired me that much. So I directly made a first test and I'm pretty satisfied but I need to make more of them (at least 2-3 more) so I can be proud of the result. I don't like to restrain myself to 1 design because I feel like I don't exploit the subject enough to be set in a particular idea.

My focus here will be on the clothes, I want them to accord efficiently to their profession so we can see instantly what is their discipline.
