Reference and planning

For my first entry I wanted to share my research process for ideas...

Hello everyone! Hope y'all are safe and sound :)

Being completely honest, I was very lost for a week trying to think of anything exciting for the Kombi project. There wasn't really a theme I wanted to go for and so I couldn't even think about what reference to gather. Luckily, some creative juices started flowing after visiting the city of San Francisco for the first time this year!

Whenever I travel or walk around a place I make sure to snap pics of anything that I find visually appealing. This time I was just carrying my not-so-awesome phone camera but I did grab some interesting graphic highlights from my afternoon walks around Castro, The Mission and Downtown. After laying my pics in a collage, I discovered  the extravagant and colorful style of the Castro theater had specially stolen my attention.

about the extravagant look of the theater, the worn patterns from the ornaments and the vintage style of it that really got me super enthusiastic. Not to forget how important this place is, for it is the location for the beginning of the fight for gay rights in the USA (If you haven't seen Milk with Sean Penn, please give it a chance!!!)

 I immediately knew the color red was going to play an important in my project. Watching the red Golden Gate Bridge for the first time was a dream come true to me and so I decided to make this color my main for the Kombi.  Another thing that I noticed caught my attention several times on my photography day, was the many many ornaments and unique details you can find in San Francisco arquitecture. I also wanted to have that on my submission, find a way to give the Kombi some ornaments-like texture in certain areas.

So having all this in mind, I went and made another collage with a clearer direction of what i wanted to have in my project. I have some crazy things in mind, but less is more and right now my main focus is to get myself to learn some subs designer and give painter a bit of a rest. I want to try new things and I'm very excited about what's coming next.
