Circuit Breaker Run
I've always dreamed of creating my own RPG although I don't know any coding and programming. This COVID-19 season I was stuck at home for months, and figured it was the perfect opportunity to learn the basics of game creation, and create an RPG about my current situation!
Overview
In the wake of COVID-19, Singapore has imposed its own version of the lockdown to slow the spread of the virus. Called the Circuit Breaker, people have to stay home and are only allowed to leave their house wearing a mask to get their essential supplies.
But one family has run out of masks... and food.
Follow Alex as she makes a daring supply run to the Supermarket, while attempting to avoiding the Enforcers who patrol the streets and dish out hefty fines to anyone not wearing a mask!
The Journey
My game creation journey began on May 17, 2020, when I first downloaded RPG Maker MV.
This game was two weeks of intensive work every evening. After my baby fell asleep, I would be watching online tutorials on how to use the software and refining my skills through trial and error.
Creating the characters was particularly fun, as I could base them off my friends and colleagues who I was missing during this period of working from home.
In total it took 40-50 hours to put this together, and I found every moment exciting and enjoyable.
I decided to share it for free online on May 31, and the reviews from my friends were positive.
The game was even picked up by IGN the next day!
Here is the full game, for your consideration.
