Round of applause for our sponsors

A personal project I picked up after watching the fist "Sonic The Hedgehog" live action movie trailer. The 3 second shot in the middle of the trailer that had a shockwave looked both cool and approchable to me at first glance so I decided to give it a go!

Everything except the background was made by me. There were 6 elements. 3 made in Houdini. 3 in after effects.

The dust pyro is driven by particles that are using outward facing normals of a cylinder as velocity. A procedural setup using some VEX and those same particles also drive the electricity shockwave. More VEX was used to control how many individual strands of lightning I want. The number can be changed at will and the procedural setup will still give you the same look, speed, and size for the electricity.

The brief was to replace the blank screen with  a graphic that shows a route laid out over everything. The style was 80's retro. I colored the map graphic given to match the retro style and and added the zoom out animation animations to further drive the eye of the view towards the map line. Rest of the techy looking stuff was added for aesthetic purposes.

I made the scan lines a TV that old would create using a grid and lens distortion in After Effects.

Personal project to learn how to integrate a CG object onto live action plate. The 3Sculpte bottle was modelled and textured in Maya. Composited in Photoshop.
