In the past 5 months, I've been studying abroad in Australia. While the pandemic has been on its peak and everybody online suddenly started baking sourdough bread. I learned how to bake maps. These are the projects I've been working on in the past couple of months.

These pieces are created during my exchange studies at Queensland University of Technology this year. I've had very minimal experience with 3D programs and pipelines beforehand. This was the very first time, I've been introduced to Maya, Substance Painter and Unreal Engine. I've also gotten a deeper understanding and knowledge of this field of work. It was during this time, I learned that I wanted to be a lighting and environment artist.

I really enjoyed making these pieces and I hope you'll enjoy them too.

The first piece is strongly inspired by the amazing and talented Simon Stålenhag. The brief was to create a scene showed with an establishing shot.

The scene is an establishing shot of an alternative dystopian environment that combines nostalgia with absurdity and mystery. The main concept is to create a dream-like imagery that plays with the theme of surrealism.

I’ve always been fascinated by surrealism, as it means beyond reality. It’s an art form that bends reality and shows the unconscious mind of the artist.

My favorite surrealist artist is René Magritte. I love his work and have even one of his art tattoed on my arm. This scene is a nod to him and his amazing work.

A part of the brief was also to create concept art for the scene. This is mine. I was inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson's way of creating powerful compositions. I'm trying to lead the viewer's eye onto the hero assets by using a diagonal line created by the dock.

The scene was modeled in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, and rendered with Arnold.

The brief for the second piece was to create an Eis Mosley environment/scene. We were provided with the concept art for the building. My main goal was to create some beautiful lighting and try.

The scene was modeled in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, and rendered with Arnold.

The last piece is created for en real-time unit. Earlier in the semester, we created a stylised truck. The brief for this project is to create an appropriate environment for the truck.

I wanted to make a realistic project and therefore got the idea to scale the tuck into toys. I was very much inspired by Child's Play 2, where Chucky chases the main characters through a toy factory.

I'm trying to convey a story of a man isolating himself inside an abandoned toy factory and to pass time, he paints one toy a day.
