My submission for the Rookies 2020 comes from my capstone project that I completed for the Vertex Next program at the Vertex school. Thank you to Ryan Kingslien as well as all the other artists that gave me critiques and feedback throughout the course of this project.

Round of applause for our sponsors

Welcome!

My name is Josh, I really appreciate you taking the time to check out my Destiny inspired fan art of the Character Osiris.

*Destiny is the property of Bungie & Activision

Sculpting the Head

This time around I tried a different method than I had in the past to apply pore detail and textures. I decided to try Zwrap in combination with some free scans from the 3d Scan Store. The results from transferring the pore detail as well as applying maps in Marmoset Toolbag turned out much better than I had anticipated. This will definitely be an avenue I will consider going down in the future.

Concept

The concept on the left, Done by Ryan Gitter (https://www.artstation.com/ryan_gitter) is the main inspiration I used for this fan art project in combination with the art from the game asset. This is how I was able to achieve a unique blend of the two.

Clothing in Marvelous Designer

The biggest lesson I learned in Marvelous Designer on this character was it can be a good idea to import objects to help hold certain shapes while simulating the cloth. For this project I used a cone shape to keep the bottom of the skirt from being pulled straight down. I also continued to learn how important it is to utilize the layer system.

In Conclusion

I appreciate everyone who took the time to check out my Destiny fan art project. I would also like to once again thank everyone at vertex School including Ryan Kingslien for the countless critiques and advice I have been given over the years. I look forward to continuing my journey into the gaming industry.
