The Art of Melody Romero
Hi everyone. My name is Melody Romero. I am a 3d artist, who focuses on modeling and texturing, with an emphasis on environments. These are some of the pieces I created while at Gnomon School of VFX and Animation. I am responsible for all the work in them. Thanks for taking a look!
Kiki's House, based on a concept by Kazuo Oga. This piece was done for a class called Digital Sets, where the challenge was to learn about creating foliage and organic environments. I was inspired by a concept from Kiki's Delivery Service. I wanted to create a warm piece that had the kind of room I'd want to sit in. I used Speedtree, along with Substance Designer, Painter, Mari, and Zbrush to create custom plants based on research I'd done. This piece was rendered in Vray.
The Playground, based on a concept by Seongmin Park.
I picked this concept because I've long admired his work, and I wanted to work on a piece that was whimsical and had lots of storytelling.I had a lot of fun working on and finishing this piece. I hope you all like it!
I used a lot of different software for this project. I learned a lot at Gnomon, and I wanted to pick the best program for each task. I used Maya for the majority of the set modeling, and Zbrush for the tree and the kids. Leaves, ivy, and plants were done in Speedtree. A good portion of the texturing was done in Substance Painter, but the brick textures were done in Designer, the ground plane was Quixel Mixer, and the tree was painted in Mari. Hair in Xgen, cloth in Marvelous. This project was rendered in Redshift.
Searching for Genevieve, based on a concept by Vivien Wu. I had a lot of fun working on this piece. The concept has a lot of storytelling in it, and I really liked Madeline as a kid. I wanted to challenge myself to do a bigger piece, that had a different mood and feeling from the other pieces on my reel.
Hot Dog Cart, based on a concept by Bastien Jalibert. This piece was done for my Texturing 2 class. All the textures were done in Substance Painter, and this project was rendered in Vray.
Last thing, here's a link to my reel, which has a couple more projects on it. Thanks for checking out my work!
