Death's Head II Redux
A fun re-interpretation of my favorite 90's comic book mercenary cyborg : Marvel's Death's Head II
Death's Head II is definitely one of the more obscure Heroes within Marvel's pantheon. Although I didn't start this project with a strict idea in mind. My main goal was to give him a bit of a design upgrade (without sacrificing too much of his signature style).
Death's Head 2 doesn't technically have "hair", what he does have is a tangle of red cables sticking out of the back of his head that resemble hair. I used Predator's signature locks as my primary inspiration.
Although I did not set myself a strict polygon budget (no more than 100k), I treated him as if he were the main character in a AAA title.
Some notes I took after the sculpting phase was finished. The notes help me think about/solidify a plan before taking the final model into Substance Painter.
In hindsight I believe I could have better optimized the head/waist cables. potentially stacking them into 1 UDIM.
This was the initial mood/design board I created to figure out what direction I wanted to take the character. Although not extensive, it established a good enough foundation for the first few iterative zbrush sketches.
DH2 is a 7 foot tall, 400lb, cyborg super-mercenary from the future. And I needed to make sure his physique fully reflected that. I looked to bodybuilders as my primary reference because of their insane proportions (particularly shoulder to waits ratios) and the outrageous size/definition in their muscles.
