Character art: Vecteur Noir and Hidatsa warrior
Hi, I'm Otas Tumelis , a game art student at DeMontfort univeristy. My goal is to be a character artist sometime soon.
Here are my two favourite university projects from this year. Not the best time to graduate but oh well.
This first one is based on a concept by Guillaume Menuel https://www.artstation.com/artwork/qAwNQN I had alot of fun working on it, but I did have to get rid of the very cool front and backpacks because of the triangle budgets we had for our projects. Might come back and do those at some point
Oops I triangulated the wireframes
Hard surface modelling started in 3dsmax, finished in zbrush, using the boolean cleanup with dynamesh and polish workflow. Textures baked in marmoset. 2 2k texture sheets I I remember correctly. Renders made in Marmoset too.
Hidatsa warrior. My second favorite one. had to rush this one a bit, it was fun getting into anatomy and detailing the skin. First attempt at a full realistic character. Didn't really have a concept to work from on this one, I mainly went off period correct paintings.
Really tried to get the anatomy right and got into skin detailing. First time placing hair cards too. I used a substance designer plugin to make the cards and 3ds Max to place them
Thanks to Guillaume Menuel for the awesome concept for the first piece. i learnt alot making these characters, and overall I've made alot of progress this year with my skill.
