Life Is Like A Movie
This render was made for my Foundations Term Final Project at Think Tank Training Centre. This artwork is a 3D render interpretation based on the concept Life Is Like A Movie by Zeen Chin. This art piece took my interest with its beautiful visuals and philosophical symbolism, so I had to re-imagine this in 3D!
This is my first ever complete project from start to finish. Everything was modeled in Maya, sculpted in Mudbox, textured in Mari, rendered in V-Ray and composed in Photoshop.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Think Tank team and my supervisor Darrell Abney for bringing me from the point of zero CG experience to this. I am grateful to my family, friends and classmates who helped me along the way!
Below you will find a bit of a breakdown on the process behind this project.
Here you can see the stages of the project. Starting with a simple blockout allowed for an easier camera and object positioning adjustments.
Since our project goal was creation of a single shot image it was an obvious choice to sculpt the dress, rather than to simulate.
The puppet hair was sculpted, which made sense since they are made out of wood. As for the humans in the shot, I had about two days to learn xGen and complete two scalps. That was quite the learning curve.
Lighting was as challenging as anything else in this piece. To come as close as possible to the concept lighting I did not shy away from using blockers and a lot of light sources with light linking table.
Thank you for taking your time and checking out this work! Cheers!
