Brandon Zhao | FX Artist
Gnomon Fx student, this includes my personal and school work I made while exploring Unreal Engine. Special Thanks to all my teachers, friends and family helped and guided me through this journey.
"RainyDay"
This piece was the first environment I created using Unreal Engine. Inspired by my home town and the massive forests that surrounds it. This piece is a combination of SpeedTree assets, terrain I created using Houdini and Unreal Fx including rain, lightning, fog and lens/camera Fx.
"Underwater Subway Portal"
This Piece is inspired by my time living in New York. Its compose of geometry I modeled in Maya and textured in Substance Painter and Designer. The plants are textures I brought in from Megascans. The Fish AI was rigged and animated in Maya and its behavior was controlled with an AI system in Unreal Engine. The water current effect was created using extruded curves I modeled in Maya and textured in Photoshop and Unreal. The portal effect was created using Houdini Flip and Unreal. Water particles and lens effect created using Unreal also rendered using Unreal Engine. Lastly, I created some post process using Nuke.
"The Gallery"
This experience was inspired by my time working the in New York gallery scenes. I'm constantly inspired by contemporary art and wanted to create an experience that challenged the idea of an art gallery and how art is viewed and interacted with. This game consists of two levels. The first level is inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and the second level was inspired by American Light artist James Turrell. In each level, I created interactive installations based on their work. The project is a first step to more installations and artists included in the interactive gallery experience. Special thanks to my friends and teachers at Gnomon.
