John Bliss - 2019 Student Work

by johnbliss19 on 31 May 2020 for Rookie Awards 2020

These are 3 of my best projects from my 2019 year as a Student. The shots include Compositing, Tracking, Modelling and Texturing, and VFX renders

Glyde

This is Glyde, he is a 3D model created in Maya and textured with Substance Painter. This was my first proper attempt at modelling a full character, unwrapping the UV's, creating textures and shaders, and rendering from Maya with Arnold.

The concept was to have a biped robot that has wheels for feet, that would move as if he was roller-blading around, with additional motor power to his wheels.

Energy Ball Render & Comp

This shot consists of a Energy Ball render being tracked into a 3d plate and some interactive lighting being projected onto the table to help the ball sit better in the plate.

The camera solve was completed in NukeX, while the different layers of the energy ball were created using noise, and Saber plugin in Adobe After Effects.

Desert Day to Night Conversion

This is a day to night conversion completed in NukeX. The process consisted of doing a camera solve in nuke to allow the creation of a ground plane in the correct position.

I then projected the footage onto the ground plane and filled the scene with various point lights, with change in colour temperature depending on what effect I wanted.
