My Environment Art

by jason94 on 29 May 2020 for Rookie Awards 2020

These are my personal artworks created at home and at school since 2017. I love creating environments! :)

This is an isolated, post apocalyptic shanty town in the middle of the desert, mixed with some futuristic elements. Because this town has limited resources, I reuse certain elements to create new assets. Learning Unreal Engine for the first time. Even though it is a shanty town, I wanted the viewer or player to feel like they are in a very bright, hot environment.

Inspired by the art of Matt Olson.

This is the first modular environment I created and rendered in Maya. I kept thinking about aliens as I was working on this, so threw it into space using HDRI lighting. I was aiming for a mysterious, magical mood.

Concept art done by Steven Shi.

This is the second environment done in Unreal Engine. More study on lighting, fog and foliage. Placed each tree individually with different angles, so they look more natural and feel slightly enclosed. Struggled to make the sky light look like 5 PM. I wanted the viewer or player to feel adventurous and curious to what is beyond this forest up ahead.

This is a electric guitar prop. More focused on high poly and realism.
