I'm Arvie, a second year studying at Flinders University / CDW Studios in Adelaide, South Australia. I've learnt a lot in the past year and a half, and here are some of the outcomes from that!

BATTLE AXE

A battle axe I created for a 3D Bootcamp class using a concept given by our instructor.

I first modelled the axe in Maya before bringing it into ZBrush to sculpt details into the different materials. The model was then brought back into Maya to create the low poly version (maximum 2000 triangles), textured in Substance Painter, and lastly brought into Marmoset to light and render.

I really enjoy this sort of process and the problem solving that comes with it. I still have a lot to learn with retopologizing and prioritising where triangles should go, since I had a lot of back and forth around this step. This was my first time using Marmoset and it was a lot of fun being able to make a turntable.

There are areas I can tell need more tweaking but nonetheless, I enjoyed this project and will make sure to keep what I learnt in mind for next time!

GUITAR

This guitar is a model of the Epiphone Les Paul in ebony; modelled in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and brought back into Maya to be rendered in Arnold. I did my best to stay as true to the reference possible and tried to keep the topology clean. This was challenging but incredibly satisfying whenever I hit 3 smooth.

I enjoyed creating all the little details of this guitar, from the different screws to figuring out what the plate on the back has engraved on it. If I were to redo this project I would slim down the strings, attempt the clear knobs the Epiphone Les Paul originally has and make sure I model the correct headstock.

COURTYARD

This diorama was an assignment for a 3D World Building class at CDW Studios. I worked from a loose concept given by the instructor and slowly built up on it.

Previously I had only taken an introductory 3D class so I definitely learnt a lot through the process of creating this small corner of a courtyard. I learnt how to create low and high poly models, tile-able textures, and foliage. I also learnt how to add details in ZBrush, texture in Substance Painter and how to bring it all together in Unreal Engine 4.

I definitely have plenty of room for improvement—this diorama isn’t even a full room—but I really enjoyed creating this and am quite proud at how much I learnt and created in a semester.
