From Below, To Above

This is my thesis film. It is a culmination of hard work that began in June 2019 and finished in May 2020. This film is mostly about underwater aesthetics and is a fantastical story mixing real life details (the fish are actual species) with dream-like ones. I hope this underwater world I've created draws you in and makes you dream of fish and crystals. 

I built this basic miniature underwater set while writing a script for this film. Looking at it from multiple angles helped me understand how to translate this into a 2D world.

I made the orange crystals out of UV resin and yellow UV resin dye. I put my phone flashlight underneath the crystals to make them glow. I built the other crystals out of balsa wood. I looked at these crystals for reference while animating a 2D one. 

These ripples are made of UV resin and green and blue UV resin dye. I made them to observe how ocean waves and sunlight might interact.
