Mech Hangar Modeling Reel
Heavily inspired by Japanese mecha anime genre, "Gundam". However, what pushes me to start learning 3D modeling is thanks to the film "Pacific Rim" (2013). This was my first passion project after graduating and I decided to further improve it after spending another year honing my modelling and texturing skills.
Making of Main Mech Asset
Codename : Rexerker
I started drawing some concept arts with minor changes to the shoulder and leg.
I ended up removing the horn shoulders as it appears to be too fantasy but kept the dinosaur-like foot to match the name that has been given to it, "Rexerker".
I also made an inner frame for the mech so in the future I will be able to animate the mech slowly being assembled
Rexerker
Constructed with full titanium core with minimum protection armor to maximize its mobility. The name "Rex" is due to its sharp fingers and foot resembling the teeth of the Tyrannosaurus Rex which it uses as weapons. The end of the name sounds similar to "Berserker", which were a unique group of elite Viking warriors who went into battle without any traditional armor, similar to the minimum amount of armors installed on the mech. The colour red also symbolize the anger and rage of a berserker, hence the name Rexerker is given to this mech.
Prop Assets Process View
All assets were created from scratch in Maya 3D and textured in Substance Painter. Most assets contain lots of rust and dirt on it to match the industrial environment.
I would also like to thank my girlfriend, Angel Nguyen who is a Visual Designer, she made me this logo to represent this faction and as a way to support me.
