Tenzen Safehouse
This is an artwork made for the environment bootcamp at Vertex school (at that time still Game Art institute). Taken from a concept for Uncharted 2 and rendered in Unreal Engine. I've tryed to stay as close as possible to the original in cluttering the space with a wide variety of props made with different tecniques.
The concept is from Uncharted 2 of Naughty Dog, interior of a home in a rustic tibetan village. Looking at real pictures of similar environments I saw how these huts all are generally a single space cluttered with food, pots, cloth and other stuff. Often there's a central fireplace for heating.
Since the original concept covered only 3 walls of the room I was free to add something personal to the back. I had in store a Buddha statue model so I've had the idea to make a corner dedicated to its worship, with 2 heavily decorated alcoves. Although they have a more traditional Buddha rather then the Laughing Buddha it seems a really nice way to cover the this aspect of tibetan culture
Another important element of the the scene was the dranyen banjo, a tipical tibetan instrument with 3 strings. While only superficially sketched in the concept art (assuming it was a musical instrument at all) it helps to define the setting, as the soundtrak of the video is appropriately played with a dranyen.
