Companion

A MULTI FUNCTION FURNITURE THAT DESIGNED TO ACCOMPANY CHILDREN PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY AS THEY GROW. IT IS ADJUSTABLE, SLOT ABLE AND FLEXIBLE TO TRANSFORM INTO DIFFERENT USAGE DEPENDING ON THEIR AGE RANGE AND INTEREST.

Children will grow through the years and one of the main challenges from kid furniture is as they grow, the furniture they used are mostly disposed and abandoned. Companion is inspired by the process of children growth do not only include growing physically but also mentally. So, in Companion, it is designed to accompany children as they grow. In addition, as to record the journey of children growth, the adjustable bolt which is fixed under the seater are used. So, while children grows the amount they grow will be shown on the bolt.

Companion is designed for children from the age range of 4-10 years old. So in each stages, children can reuse the furniture for another usage. For children at 4-5 years old, at this stage playing is important, they like to jump and climb to experience with new things. Then, at the age of 6-7 they will started to learn how to write and during 8-10 years old, by developing their creative skills and thinking. For example, they like to play board games to train their brain. So, Companion is not only plays as a furniture, but also a toy to the children.

Companion is able to transform to another usage whereby it is available to reuse the furniture as children grows. So, it is able to achieve sustainable practice. In environment aspect, due to Companion is able to transform its usage and reuse to adopt the children’s growth, it will reduce the number of furniture being disposed. Economically, it saves money from buying new furniture as children grow. However, in social aspect, it is able to educate children on bringing up the culture of reuse. 

To achieve safety, every corner of the furniture are designed in curve. However, for the material, laminated plywood is used as the main material as it is a natural material which will not be harmful towards children.

For children at 4-5 years old, at this stage playing is important, they like to jump and climb to experience with new things.Companion can act as a Rocking chair. The board under the rocking chair used to balance and avoid children from falling off. The hand holder is flexible to change to other elements. For example, steering for children to play with. It also can be transformed into children’s playground by turning over the rocking chair part. 

 At the age of 6-7, they will start to learn how to write. The Flipped over rocking chair acted as study table, however seat can be taken apart using Allen key as a chair. The bolt can be adjusted according to children’s height to achieve the correct ergonomics.

During 8-10 years old, it is time for the children to develop their creative skills and thinking. So, The holes which designed on the chair and table are able to act as a board game area. By using rope, children are able to train their creative skills to create different shape on the shape through the holes. 

After 10 years old, Companion can be transformed into low of high side table The rocking part transformed to higher side table for laptop and seat acted as lower side table.

 In addition, it can be acts as a protection to limit the children from doing dangerous activity by gathering the rocking part up.

Companion is proposed in collection which is available in pink, blue and green pastel colour. So, it is able to suit each children's gender.
