THE FOOD BENGKEL is presented by the collaboration between The Lost Food Project which is a food bank and MAEKO, a food waste specialist. To design an exhibition center for the Lost Food Project and the collaboration with MAEKO. The aim is to educate the public to create awareness on reducing food waste.

Food Cycle Exhibition: Urban Farming and Food Waste Management
THE FOOD BENGKEL is presented by the collaboration between The Lost Food Project which is a food bank and MAEKO, a food waste specialist. To design an exhibition centre for the Lost Food Project and the collaboration with MAEKO, as the proposed site is located at Aunggun Residences Sales Gallery (Jalan Sultan Ismail, Chow Kit , KL Malaysia). The aim of THE FOOD BENGKEL is to educate the public to educate and create awareness on reducing food waste.
FRONT FACADE - it is surrounded by landscape and greenery to represent and bring out the tropical like space in the center of the city. The material used for the facade is metal strip laminated with wood texture. The proposed site is located at Anggun Residences Sales Gallery which is located at Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Concept is named as ENDLESS LOOP and is inspired by the tagline of both of the clients which are Close the loop, and feed the hungry not the landfill are working towards a similar objective which is to achieve zero food waste and a sustainable future.
Section A and B
It is divided to three floors as the ground floor showcases the solution for food waste disposal, first floor showcases the source of food waste that disposed by each sectors and issue that caused by food waste disposal. However, to fully utilized the building, roof top is designed into a garden and farm as to plants more crops to sell.
Vertical Farming Exhibition - It showcases how food is produced using modern technique until the transitional technique. Vertical farming is also one of the ways to reduce food waste as it will produce 10 times more crops than traditional techniques may affect by climate change and pest.
Exhibition Area - Everyone has an idea of how good they produce but seldom people will realize how food is being disposed. This gallery is to bring the visitors to go through how food is being disposed from each place which includes farm, market and house.
Exhibition Area - Issues that caused by food waste disposal to shock the visitors on the seriousness of this issue. It will be divided into three parts which is the world hunger issue, deforest issue and global warming issue.
Deforest Area - jungle like space is created to remind the visitors on deforest issue are all caused by human’s act.
Global Warming Exhibition - The floor material will be using reflective material to represent the ice is floating on water and AR are used to project the melting of the melting effect of the ice. As shown in the perspective view, as the ice melts, in will increase the sea level and cause flood. Digital screen are used on the platform to represent the ice melts will caused flood and as for the information board, it is designed to used house roof as to represent the house had been covered by flood till the roof.
Future Market - represent The Lost Food Project’s practices. This area allows The Lost Food Project to the surplus vegetables and fruits they collected to resell or distribute to the poor. Digital screen that can detect motion is installed whereby while visitors put the food near to the screen that located above the display rack, the information about the nutrition, detail of its’ journey, weight and price, cook method will show in the screen. The reason to show them this information is not only educate the public to appreciate food but also allow them to know the correct amount, correct food and correct cooking method to avoid overbuy and overcook that will lead to the increase of food waste.
Restaurant - A self service restaurant. To reduce the leftover food waste, visitors are able to customize their food portion and their meals.
Food Waste Recycle Area - it represent the practice by MAEKO. Since It is a self service restaurant visitors are required to keep their throw the leftover food waste to this area. This will be a good idea to practice this culture by starting form a small action to educate the visitors to recycle their food waste.
This area is also showcasing the progress of food waste composting so as they go through the tunnel.
Merchandise store - selling the fertilizer and also different kinds of actual crops and seed to promote the visitors to bring up the culture of self planting at their house.
Rain Water System - The special highlight of this exhibition will be the watering system for the whole exhibition whereby rain water is used to water the vegetation and plants in the whole space.
Water Fountain - bringing up the culture of saving water and in addition providing cooling effect to the space.
This rain water system focuses on optimal rainwater usage by collecting rainwater at the water fountain before pumping towards the whole building. The remaining rainwater will then channeled to the rooftop garden to be used in the next cycle.
