Concept, Design and Animation

Anthony Robinson
by antsrobinson on 19 May 2020 for Rookie Awards 2020

Here is a handful of my work that expresses the style and quantity of work that I am able to produce. I find having a solid understanding of how to draw is the basis for great design, animation, and illustration. I continue to work hard so my skills can grow, and so I may produce better work with each new piece.

The Solus

Solar-powered Artificial Intelligence.

Each of the objects in these background pieces is their own independent asset. Working this way allows me to freely manipulate the image to get the right composition and achieve a nice parallax effect when animated.

This is a clip of an empty scene for the game I am developing with a small team. The game is called Tinker and Spell.

All the artwork in this clip is my own, with the exception of the stump Tinker hits. That said, this shot would not have been possible had it not been for Jack Sinko's programming skills. I consider this shot very much a team effort.

Stump Concept: Sarah Bicknell

Much like most of my work, I begin with a series of thumbnails. For animations, I tend to draw all the motion on a single page and break it up once I get the right flow.

I can draw people too but fantasy is more fun, you know?

I am not subject to drawing in a stylised manner, however, if allowed I will naturally lean in that direction.

Tatsoi

This is very early footage of gameplay. Please note that this is far from the final product and please excuse the quality crunch from Vimeo.

I chose to include this clip to demonstrate my ability to animate complex designs.

3D background concept: Nathan Thorman
Howler design (wooden creature): Jo Chalmers
Programming: Jack Sinko
Environment effect animation: Adam Klappers
2D draw-over, paint, and animation: myself

This is but a handful of monsters that I have in the animation pipeline.
