Environment & Level Art by Regina V. Esteva
A collection of the work I made during my year at VanArts. There are three projects: Old Rusty's Bar, Relictus and Compass. "Old Rusty's Bar" is a personal piece I made from an original concept by Juhani Jokinen. "Relictus" and "Compass" are environments I helped create with my friends for game demos.
OLD RUSTY'S BAR: My "Old Rusty's Bar" environment piece is based off the original concept by Juhani Jokinen. I tried to give it a more vibrant feel, while still matching the original mood and concept very closely. It was featured on Unreal's Community Spotlight: https://youtu.be/S_ivJWJ-NVY <3
I am responsible for all aspects of this piece except for the rig and animation of the Robot Spider. Rig by Fernanda Zegers and Animation by Andrea Hernández.
RELICTUS: For this second portfolio piece, I had the honour of working with my friends in school as Environment Lead & Production Assistant to make "Relictus", a psychological horror game demo. We had 8 weeks to complete the project and make it into a fully playable demo. As Environment Lead, I coordinated the Environment Team which was responsible for everything in the game regarding the world itself: architecture and structures, props, foliage, terrain, lighting & level art. I was also involved in creating all types of assets, textures and materials throughout our production pipeline (like the foliage, exterior ruins, some smaller props and ground materials). I also did the level art and set dressing of our exterior and final level. This was an incredible process and a learning experience. The people who weren't making the environment created the characters, animations, VFX and tech.
COMPASS: This third portfolio piece is the environment that I helped create for "Compass", starring "Fuzzy", the fluffiest otter of them all! This is an interactive level in which I did environment, terrain and level art, props, lighting and more technical work involving things like shaders and particles in UE4. For the full credits, you can visit the project link. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/ybXAyR The level was completed by some of my friends from school and I (a group of 7 people) in about 6 weeks. They did the animation, concept art, characters & tech.
