UPDATE V

After arranging everything into one, this is the stage to do deeper detailing, coloring and lighting, and also determining color mood and other additions. Voila ... we got our underground lab!

After determining the prop concept and architectural components, it's time to apply all the components into a single visual. In this stage I have added texture, lighting and arranged the right composition and added some details of basic architectural components based on initial ideas and concepts.

Another important part is building components. I also created some ideas related to the theme since we are talking about ancient buildings, which includes carvings, sculptures, pillars or drawings on the wall. I did that in order to facilitate me to be more detailed and makes it easier for me to apply some available architectural components.

In my opinion, setting the components in the concept is very important to build a visual form which is related to the idea, so I made a prop concept first as a form of warming up before making the environment concept that I want. In this project, not only I made a single illustration, but I also made a story in it and a visual of how it looks like when these concepts and ideas were applied in the game. Therefore, I made several supporting objects below. There are number of potions with different sizes, shapes and capacities; there is also a key which has an access room or storage that contains confidential files or items which has the concept that I took from the African comb shape; and there is the Mother's Bone, it is bone fragments from long-lived ancestor in The J’ba Fofi Cave.

Project’s Brief

This time, the project will tell about a lab that runs an ancient creature research operation in mainland Congo that has inhabited ancient ruins under the ground for centuries, where the creature has been used as experimental material as a secret government warfare weapon. The interesting thing is that they do the research in the ruins of an ancient kingdom that had disappeared due to the damage caused by these ancient creatures. Local residents call this creature by the name of J'ba Fofi or better known as a giant spider. In addition, scientists say that the substances contained in the spider's body can create a serum that can aggravate the body that makes the user does not need to sleep and stay fine in a state of very high focus. It is in these ancient ruins that scientists conduct the magnitude research.

Reasons of Story

Ancient buildings have roles that support a background in fantasy and sci-fi stories which are made attractively into films and games, some of them are The Mummy, King-Kong, and many more. This time, The Rookies used that as a theme in this contest with the theme "Forbidden Lands, Fallen Empire, and Ancient Guardians", and I wanted to integrate the three themes into one in a visual environmental form. I am interested in the cultures of the African and one of the things that makes me interested is a folklore about giant spiders or the native population in Congo, they call it J'ba Fofi, I am interested in integrating J'ba Fofi, the architecture of the ancient kingdom of mainland Africa, and a sci-fi instrument which is a lab.
