by davidsohr on 26 Apr 2020 for Rookie Awards 2020

For this entry I wanted to add my four latest VFX-shots. 3 of those are school projects and one of them is a personal project I made over several weeks. I'm currently studying in Stockholm to become a VFX-artist and are aiming for a 3D generalist roll. Everything you see is mostly 3D, but also containts 2D compositing.

Round of applause for our sponsors

Hi, and welcome to my entry of my four latest visual effects shots. I currently study to become a VFX-Artist at Xenter in Stockholm, and 3 out of 4 shots are actually school projects. I hope you guys enjoy what you see.

Before and after Waxholm Castle Shot. This is the part of a school-project I did together with 4 other artists, where we were supposed to transform modern stockholm into a 18th century look. I was involved in 2 out of 4 shots and below you can find the result. Due to corona outbreak, I couldn't film my own shot and found this drone shot online instead. With this as my starting point, I started to sculpt, model and add assets over time. Watch the shot and the breakdown in the video at the top.

This is a personal project I made using Maya for environment building, look dev, lighting, animation and render in Arnold. This is my first project where I used Nuke for compositing for the first time. The vision is that I wanted to create a photorealistic sci-fi landscape in 3D and mix it with 2D composited assets.

This animated skeleton was a part of a school task, where we learned to texture in Mari for the first time. Since I was quit satisfied with my texturing I also had the time to come up with an animation aswell, and this is the result. Watch the animation in the video at the top, where I include some creds and more information about the shot. This scene is completely 3D and contains no live-action footage. This is why this one might fit into the 3D character animation category!
