Car Chase Project
This is a full cg shot I did in Oktober 2019 for a college project. The shot was rendered with Arnold in Maya, the sparks were added in After Effects. The car was not modeled by me, it was made by vladivpg on cgtrader.com (https://www.cgtrader.com/free-3d-models/car/sport/mitsubishi-evolution-x#)
I had lots of fun creating the wet road surface using procedural noises to mix different asphalt textures, then adding puddles with another noise texture.
It was also a really nice experience to work with a night scene, its incredible how much you can hide in the shadows. Heavy use of volumetrics gave the entire scene a nice atmosphere.
All lights in the scene, except for the neon tubes in the bg, make use of photometric IES lights. I added the bullet sparks in Post with After Effects, which produced a more realistic looking result much faster than creating them in 3d.
I animated a texture in After Effects to simulate the bullet holes on the car, but it ended up not being visible in the render.
Some testrenders I did while developing the scene.
Icecream Truck
An animation I created while reworking an old project I made for a cg contest. Rendered with Arnold in Maya in several layers, then composited in AE.
This project started with the CG Boost Art challenge, tasking me to create an artwork on the topic "icecream".
A few weeks later, after getting tons of Feedback on my submission (especially from Reddit), I decided to rework the project to improve on my mistakes, and created the animation.
The butterfly animation was done in several steps: First I put the pretty insect into a group, which I animated to follow a motionpath. Then I animated the up-down movement of the butterfly itself, adding some noise to the animation curve to archive the jittery movement. Using reference and feedback I tuned the animation to archive a believable result.
Rusty Computer
A decayed, abandoned and rusty Computer. Modeled in Maya, Textured mostly in Substance Painter and rendered in Arnold. My latest project.
This was another project where I could realize my passion for lost places and decay. The idea was to imagine, how a high-end, top-notch computer would look like after a few years abandoned in the desert.
I modeled and textured everything myself, which is the reason, why this project took me a few months to complete. I was working mainly in Maya and Substance Painter, rendered it in Arnold.
For the mainboard I used a combination of modeled electronic parts, and a displacement map I made in Photoshop, using white and grey squares to create the height for the components.
What I am currently working on...
Animated short
My main focus at the moment is on an animated short that I am working on. I plan on finishing it until the end of the year, and as I´m still in the concepting phase there is a lot of work to come.
The protagonist is a small robot, that discovers a strange portal in the ice desert of a foreign planet.
If you want so see more details and the latest progress of this project, you can visit my social media, where I regularly post new stuff.
Icicle generator
Created as a weekend exercise and likely to be used in the Short, this is an icicle generator I made in Houdini. It is my first real Houdini project, and I am really happy with the outcome.
Scifi Steam Locomotive
This Scifi steam locomotive is part of a side project that has been a back and forth for the last few months. The original Environment I wanted to place it in was a sort of Cyberpunk/Steampunk mix, set in a militant dictatorship where people use those huge trains to hide on, trying to escape.
Ive grown to be unsatisfied with the original concept I had in mind, and I am still unsure where this project will lead. I am considering to finish the locomotive just as a standalone asset.
This was the first project in which I made extensive use of kitbashing.
Using small, detailed parts of models I found on turbosquid and co, I was able to create a huge scale, detailed asset in merely days. Making all little parts myself would have taken me much longer.
