Update - 7 Jan 2020

So These Are My Final Render Shots For The Whole Competition. I've Learned A Lot In The Past 6 Weeks Of Work And I Probably Updated My Entry Way Too Many Times Haha. What's Happened In This Shot Is That Gang Confrontations Have Destroyed Property In The Slums And People Are Too Afraid To Go Outside And Work. There's Supposed To Be A Lot Of Construction Going On Since The War Just Ended, But The Slum's Citizens Are Terrified Of Being Attacked By Violent Gang Members. I'm Overall Pretty Happy With The Final Outcome Of My First Competition, I'm Eager To Use The Skills I've Learned On My Next Project. Anyways, As Always, I Hope You Enjoy The Art!!

Update - 4 Jan 2020

Hey Peeps!! So Here's Where I'm At Right Now! All That's Left To Do Is To Import And Prepare Every Prop To Be Used As Set Dressing And Then Lay Them Out. I'm Overall Very Happy With The Final Outcome For The Non-Prop Models And The Final Layout Of The Buildings, Sidewalks And Road. It Didn't Come Out Exactly How I Imagined It In My Head, But This Is My First Environment So What's Most Important Is Figuring Out What The Workflows For Environment Art Are And What Techniques Are Important And Save The Most Time. One Thing I Learned Is That I Should Really Pickup How To Use MASH For Environment Props Like Rocks And Coins So I Can Spread Them Out To Add Interesting Details. I'm Happy That I've Come This Far In My First Environment And Contest Piece, Hopefully You've All Enjoyed It As Well. Anyways, As Always, Enjoy The Art, Because Next Time I Post An Update, It Might Be The Last Update For This Competition.

Update - 3 Jan 2020

Hey Peeps!! So Here's Where I'm At Right Now! I Just Finished Laying Down All The Tiles And UVing The Road Along With The Lining For The Sidewalks. Hopefully Tommorow I Can Upload A Render With The Road And Everything Else Textured. I'm Planning On Starting The Layout Process For Set Dressing By Sunday So Keep Your Fingers Crossed For Me! As Always, Enjoy The Art!

Update - 2 Jan 2020

Hey Peeps! Here's What I've Been Workin On Lately. Any Feedback Would Be Much Appreciated. Laying Tiles Isn't Easy When You Don't Know MASH, Should Probably Learn That Soon Lol. Thinking Of Doing Some Lighting And Texture Revisions But I'm Running Low On Time, So Depending On The Circumstances, I May Have To Do A 48-72hr Marathon To Get Everything Done If I'm Not On Schedule By Friday. That'll Be Fun Lol. Anyways, Enjoy The Art!

Update - 31 Dec 2019

Hey Once Again Peeps!! I Finally Finished The House Block Asset. I Did Some Progress Snips And The Last 2 Are Renders, First One's From Within Substance's Iray Renderer And The 2nd One Is A Mood Dev Render Used To Gauge How It'd Fit Within The Scene. It Kinda Came Out Telltale Style, But So Did The Rest Of My Stuff So Oh Well Lol. Last Thing I Have To Model And Texture Is The Finalized Road Model And Then We Can Get To Finally Laying Out The Environment And Props For Our Final Render Shot!! Enjoy The Art As Always!

Update - 30 Dec 2019

Hey Peeps!! So I Spent About 13hrs Today Trying To Get The Blockout Finalized And Also To Finally Get The Building Into Substance XD. A Majority Of My Time Was Spent On Finalizing The House Model And UVing It. The Final ID Map Can Be Seen In The Last Progress Screen Shot. The Bakes Within Substance Turned Out Perfect Except For A Couple Of UV Errors With The Roof Tiles, Once I'm Done With That I'm Ready To Texture This Bad Boii!! Hopefully I Can Finish It By Tomorrow Since I Still Have To Texture The Road And Start Laying Down The Assets Finally!! XD. Anyways, As Always, Enjoy The Art!!

Update - 29 Dec 2019

Hey Peeps!! I've Been Hard At Work The Last Couple Of Days Figuring Out This Whole Environment Layout And Building Modeling Process. As You Can See, I've Done The Layout For The Buildings In The First Shot(I May Add More Spacing In The Street To Open Space For More Props), So I've Started On Modeling The Building Which Can Be Seen In The Slums Of The First Episode Of Peaky Blinders. I May Model Another Building And Or Add Foliage If I Have Enough Time, But In The Show, And In Real Life, The Slums Really Only Consist Of This One Model House. I'm Hoping To Be Close To Finishing The Texturing Work Tomorrow, Can't Wait To Start Laying Down The Props!! Also! The Blockout For The Lighting Came Out Pretty Great, I Was Going To Use Atmosphere As Well, But This Technique Is Very New To Me And It Didn't Turn Out Well, I Don't Have Time To Learn More About It, So I'm Just Going To Mimic The Show's Color Palette With Light Sources Only, Not Atmosphere Volumes. Enjoy The Art!!

Update - 27 Dec 2019

Ahhhhhhhhhh, Finally Finished Texturing All 90+ Assets!!!!! Can't Rest Yet Though, I Still Have To Model And Texture The Buildings And Such. Hopefully I'll Be Able To Start Modeling The Buildings Tomorrow And Finish Texturing Them In Less Than A Week, I Still Want To Have A Couple Of Days Left To Layout The Environment And Maybe Add Some Lighting If There's Time. If Not I'll Have To Settle With Some Other Form Of Lighting, Like HDRI Or Something. I'm On The Final Push My Peeps!!! Unfortunately, There Were Some Problems With Applying The Textures Onto The Broken Wooden Wheels So I Had To Scrap Them After An Hour Or So Of Troubleshooting. I Think There Was A Problem With It Reading The Textures From Substance, Every time I Put On A Substance Texture, It Crashed, So Had To Scrap Unfortunately... Enjoy The Art Though!

Update - 26 Dec 2019

Hey Peeps!! I'm Running Low On Time Again! So Enjoy The Art, Hopefully Next Time I'll Be Able To Give Some Actual Introspective Lol Sry. Have Fun!

Update - 25 Dec 2019

Hey Peeps!!! I'm Running Late Today So No Introspective Today. Enjoy The Art!!!

Update - 24 Dec 2019

Hey Again Peeps!! Unfortunately I Was Only Able To Get 11/12 Of The Props I Wanted To Get Done, Done Today. Today Was Just A Slow Day. There Is An Upside Tho, I'm Learning A Lot About Lighting Right Now And That's Why You See The Lantern Shot With The DOF On It. I Feel Like It Was Worth It, Learned A Lot About Arnold Renderer Today, Made Glass And Dirty Glass For The First Time Today! The Only Thing About Today's Prop Batch Which Bothers Me Is The Color Harmony Of The 2nd Door Model, It Doesn't Quite Match Up, I'll See If I Can Fix It Later On. Anyways, Enjoy The Art My Peeps!!

Update - 21 Dec 2019

Hey Again My Peeps! I Was Able To Get A Lot Of Work Done Today! I Finished 14 Assets And I'm Really Happy With The Outcomes For Most Of Them, Maybe Not The Cigarette Or Leather Case, But Those Are Very Small Objects With 256X256 Maps. I'd Love Some Critique On My Texturing And Maybe Some Tips For Working In Substance As Well, This Is Only My 3rd Day Of Seriously Working Within Substance. So Far I've Expanded My Knowledge Pretty Vastly In Relativity To My Previous Knowledge, The Technical Aspects Don't Seem Too Complex At This Point, There Are Some Functions And Features That I Still Don't Fully Understand, But I Guess That'll Come With Time Lol. P.S. Some Of The Wood May Seem Too Alike, But Remember I'm Trying To Keep To A Certain Color Range.

Update - 20 Dec 2019

Hey Once Again My Peeps! As You Can See, I've Output More Than Yesterday. I'm Overall Very Happy With The End-Result Of All These Props, Maybe Not The Bullet Though XD. The Brick Wall Is The Star Of Today's Work, It Came Out Surprisingly Good. I Don't Even Know What Happened, I Just Kinda Kept Adding And Adding. Maybe It's My Sense Of Observation. Anyways! I'm Low On Time, So Enjoy The Art!

Update - 19 Dec 2019

So I Spent Most Of Today (5/7.5hrs) Learning The Proper Techniques To Finalize The Asset Creation Pipeline Process. The Part Which Took So Long Was Figuring Out How To Export Assets From Maya Once They Had Been Loaded With The Proper Media Like Textures, FBX Wouldn't Work Because It Doesn't Maintain Attached Media, So I Landed On Exporting Them As ASCII Files. I'm Also Quite Happy With How The Texturing Turned Out, Especially On The Wooden Barrel!! If I'm Being Honest, I Haven't Had This Much Fun Doing Anything For A While Now. Maybe That's Because This Is My First Time Really Texturing For A Purpose Further Than Just Finishing A Single Asset, Everything Has To Work Together... Welp! Enjoy The Art My Peeps! Tomorrow I'm Planning On Upping The Output To At Least 6 Asset Sets/Day Instead Of 2.5 XD. Since I Won't Have To Spend Time Learning The Workflow Again, I'll Be Able To Do A Lot More, And A Lot Faster. Keep Posted For Tomorrow!

Update - 18 Dec 2019

Alright My Peeps, It's Been A Hectic Week. The Weekend Was Dedicated To Learning/Practicing Compositing And Lighting As It'll Be From Now On So I Couldn't Finish UVing Back Then, But I Just Finished Right Now. I UV'd Around 95 Individual Assets And 63 Unique Assets. Through This, I've Found Out That I Actually Don't Mind UVing, I Know, Pretty Rare Lol. Tomorrow'll Be My First Texturing Update. I've Never Used Substance Painter Too Seriously Before So I Probably Won't Be Too Efficient With It, But After Getting These 95 Individual Assets Done, I Should Be Pretty Comfortable With The Workflow And Techniques, Or That's The Plan At Least Haha. Sry I Haven't Been Able To Put Out Any Visuals Recently, I Did Stream The UV Process But I Don't Think Anyone Would Really Enjoy Looking At A Scroll List Of 90+ UV Passes XD. Work May Be A LITTLE Bit Slower Through The Week Since It's Finals Week At My High School, But After That I'll Have A Whole 2 Weeks To Work 12-14Hrs/Day!! Hopefully In That Time I'll Be Able To Get In My Final Render. Stay Tuned For Tomorrow's Update!

Update - 12 Dec 2019

So I Officially Started The UVing Process Today, Should Be Another 2 Days Or So Until I'm Done. I Would Show Everyone Progress Pics, But I Don't Believe That UVs Are The MOST Exciting Thing About 3D Art XD. I'll Probably Make The Final Draft Of The Layout Of The Scene Either This Weekend Or Early Next Week, So Look Forward To That!! For Now, Time To UV And Learn The Proper Building Modeling Methods And Workflows! Have A Nice Day All!

Update - 11 Dec 2019

Hey Again Peeps! Today I Finished Up All The Low-Poly Objects So Here's The High-Poly Stuff That I Modeled Today! The Wagon Was The Last Low-Poly Model BTW Lol. Next Up Is Making Garbage Piles And Linen Sacks In Maya. I'm More Comfortable With Using Dynamics To Model Things In Maya Than I Am In Max So Yea. After That, We Implement The Layout I've Created In 2D By Modeling And Placing Down Buildings! This'll Be The First Time I'm Doing Buildings! I'll Probably Watch A Couple Hours Of Tutorials And Workflow Examples On How To Go About That Process, So Wish Me Luck!!

Update - 10 Dec 2019

Hey Again Peeps! Sorry There Wasn't Any Update This Saturday, I Decided To Start Dedicating More Time To Learning Lighting And Composition Through Jeremy Birn's Handbook. Seems Good So Far. Hopefully I Can Get Through The Chapter On Lighting Environments Before It's Too Late Lol. Anyways, Here's Today's Models! A Bullet, Hat, Door, Roof Ornament(IDK The Architectural Names Lol), A Mini Windmill And A Pile Of Wood. Pile's Seem To Be Good Idea For Setting A Depressing Tone. Hopefully I Can Make My Scene Look More Happiness Deprived Through The Use Of Trashed Elements On Piles.

Update - 7 Dec 2019

Hey Peeps! Today's Models Were Even Simpler Than Yesterdays, The Cylinder Is Going To Be A Cigarette By The Way. I Usually Try To Get Around 7 Models Done In A Day And I Finished Early So That's Why I'm Updating Early. I'm Not Going To Stop Working Though!! Currently UVing To Fill In Time. I'm The Kind Of Person That When I Actually Want To Do Something, I'll Put 110% Effort Into It, And Spending Time Not Working Makes Me Feel Like I'm Being Lazy, Hence Why I Jumped Ahead To Do Some Early UVs. Contemplating Whether Or Not I Should Add Update Screenshots For Such Small Props. Eh, Whatever Lol. Anyways, Enjoy The Art!

Update - 6 Dec 2019

As You Can See My Peeps, Not Very Impressive. I Had To Do Most Of The Simple Props Today. This Is Because I Had A List Of About 90 Props I Referenced For Modeling And I Just Made It To The Bottom Of The List, Although I Skipped A Few So I Only Have About 50 Models Done. Once I Go Down The List Once More And Iterate On Which Models I'll Build, I'll Move Onto The Few Higher Poly Models I Have Planned For Modeling. One Thing I Really Want To Learn How To Make Properly For Set Dressing Is The Concept Of "Rubble Piles" Or Trash Heaps. Seems Like Something That Wouldn't Be Good For The Composition At First, But This Technique Will Really Help Tie Together The Look Of Depravity. Anyways, Enjoy The Art My Peeps!

Update - 5 Dec 2019

Hey Again Peeps!! Here Are The Props Of The Day! Last One Kinda Reminds Me Of A Roman Column, Neet. Everythings Going To Get Harder From Here On Out To Imma Have To Work Extra Hard, High Poly Models And All. I Have A Few Lined Up, Some Carts/Wagons And I'll Finally Finished The Gun. For Now I Still Have To Finish About Another 30 Props, So A Weeks Work Left On That! Hope To See You Back Soon!

Update - 4 Dec 2019

Hey Peeps!! Had Some Extra Time To Model Today But Ended Up Using It For Something Else. I Did Still Make 7 Models Instead Of 6 And I Like How Most Of Them Turned Out. I Should Probably Start Blocking In The Environment Soon Lol. Enjoy The Art!!

Update - 3 Dec 2019

Here's The Props I Modeled Today! Didn't Have As Much Time As Usual Because I Had To Go Do Some Normal People Activities. But I Got 1 Prop Done Per Hour. ALSO One Of Those Props Have Something VERY Wrong With Them, I'll Leave That To You To Figure Out. I'm Very Happy With How The Lantern Stand And The Candlestick Came Out. I Think Doing All These Props Has Taught Me How To Quickly Understand 3D Form Just By Looking At Reference And Recreate It Fast Using Basic Techniques. My Biggest Problem As A 3D Artist Is The Amount Of Time Certain Processes Take Me, I Think The 30 Or So Props I've Modeled So Far Have Really Helped Me Speed Up My Workflow. Props Just Seem In General A Really Nice Way To Practice Very Specific Design Techniques Which You Can Put Together To Help Yourself Understand More Complex Objects Faster. We'll See On My Next High-Poly Object Whether Or Not My Practice Theory Holds Up. But Enjoy The Art My Peeps!

Update - 1 Dec 2019

Sup Peeps, Today I Couldn't Work As Long As Usual Because I Had To Help Some People Setup For An Art Show. I Got In About 8Hrs Of Work Though, So I Clutched It. However, I Was Only Able To Finish 5 Assets With A 6th One Being WIP Currently Since I Kind Of Have To Stop Eventually XD. The Reason Why I Made So Little Many Assets In 8Hrs Is Because The Wood Log Piles Took A Total Of 2 1/2Hrs To Model And Randomize. It Was Also Hard To Discern The Details Of The Crate From My Screenshots. Anyways, I Think I Improved A Lot Today, Which Is Pretty Cool. Hope You Enjoy The Artwork. Oh, And Tomorrow Won't Have Any Updates Since Sunday Is My All Day Note Taking Day, I Usually Take Notes 3Hrs A Day From Books And Videos Such As The Training Series Put Out By Arrimus 3D(Which I Highly Recommend). But Sundays I Take Notes All Day, So I Can't Really Work On The Project Tomorrow, So Sad... Have A Nice Rest Of The Weekend!

Update - 30 Nov 2019

I Couldn't Upload This Update Last Night Because My Internet Was Down, But I Finished A Lot Of Work Yesterday. I Was Going For 10 Different Models, But I Had To Do Some Other Activities With My Family So I Only Had Time To Get 9 Of Them Done. Surprisingly, The Wooden Wheel Was The One That Took The Longest To Finish. Simulating What Broken Wood Would Look Like Took About 20-30Mins Per Damaged Wheel. I Think This Process Is Helping Me With One Of My Most Lacking Skills In 3D(Besides Organic Modeling), Time. I Know How To Do Everything, But It Just Takes Me A Long Time To Finish Detailing, This Project Is Definitely Helping Speed Up The Amount Of Time I Spend On Making Basic Details And It's Helping Me Be Able To Conceptualize The Geometry And Topology Of Objects Just By Looking At Them In Reference. Anyways, Enjoy The Art!! Any Feedback Is Appreciated!

Update - 29 Nov 2019

It's Hard To Recognize Because Of The Lighting In That Scene, But This Crate Is Pretty Iconic Since It Was The Design Used For The Crates In The Robbery Scene For The Accident Gun Acquisition In The First Episode XD.

Props Aren't Very Hard To Model, But This Cupboard Was The Most Intricate Model Of The Day Due To The Handles. I Think They Came Out Good, And I Also Got To Practice Max's Excellent Symmetry Functionality Since I Divided It Into 8 Mirrored Pieces. 10/10 Experience

This Container Will Be Really Great For Storytelling. For Example, I Can Put Old Wooden Planks Into It And Enhance The Mood Of Depravity. Or Maybe Not, We'll See.

I'd Always Though That Books Looked Like A Really Good Prop For Set Dressing Since They're Easily Modeled And You Can Add The Illusion Of A Bigger World Onto Your Set By Putting Good Art On Them. So Hopefully I Can Pull That Off Lol.

My First Escapade Of The Day! A Tankard With Damaged Variants!

Hello Peoples!! I Spent Most Of My Day Setting Up A Workflow For How I'm Going To Get My Models To Be Texture Ready. I'm A VERY Organized Person So I Like To Spend A Lot Of Time On Setting Up Proper Flows. Anyways, I Did Model Some Props Today With Some Of The Props Having Damaged Variants. I Woke Up 5 Hours Later Than I Was Supposed To So I Was Only Able To Pump Out 5 Props Today, But Tomorrow I'll Do 10-12 Like I'm Supposed To Lol.

Update - 28 Nov 2019

So Today I Tried To Learn The Workflow Between Maya, Max And Substance Painter And I Believe I'll Be Using Them For Certain Purposes Now. Max Is Of Course For Modeling, Maya Will Be Used For UVs, Environment Layout, Lighting And Rendering And Substance Will Be Used For Texturing Obviously. I Didn't Get Much Work Done Today Practicality Wise, But I Now Know Exactly The Process I Need To Follow To Pump Out More Props. I Decided To Do The "Trashable" Or Damaged Props First, These Are Props With Variations That Are In A Damaged Condition As Seen In The Snippets, This Will Be Great For Getting That Harsh Tone Because I Can Have Trash And Rubble Everywhere! I Plan On Doing 5-8 More Props Tomorrow Since I'll Be Here For Like... 12Hrs Of Work. Look Forward To My Next Update!! Hope You Enjoy!

Update - 27 Nov 2019

Change In Plans, I'm Going To Start Focusing More On Speed Modeling Set Dressing Props While Slowly Working On The Winchester. I Found That This Helps My Productivity A Lot. I'm Also Going To Start On The 2D Layout Tomorrow. Hopefully I Can Have A Finalized 2D Layout For Y'all By Friday. So From This Point On, You'll Be Seeing All The Props I'm Modeling Daily As Set Dressing And The Major Props Will Come A Little Slower. I'm Also Learning How To Make Appealing Rubble And Trash Piles, Seems Lit. Anyways, Enjoy The Update! Left The Hardest Part For Last, The Damn Bolt Action Mechanism XD.

Update - 24 Nov 2019

Update 1 Of Project Peak-Easy: November 23rd, 2019

I've Been Working On The Preproduction Stage Of This Environment I'll Be Doing Based On The Visuals Shown In Peaky Blinders. This's The Final Reference Board I'll Be Using To Decide The Layout Of The Environment, I'm Currently Prospecting What Kind Of Layout For The Streets And Buildings I Want. I Going To Make My Own Layout Based On The Elements Of The Street Layout Shown In The Reference. Next Is Prospecting Usable Props From The References That I Could Place Within The Scene. Not Everything Will Be Pulled Directly From Reference Either, Hence Why We Call It Reference Lol. I'm Currently Modeling A Winchester Model 1917 To Be Placed Within Some Crates I'll Have In The Scene.

Once I Decide What The Mood Will Be Like, What The Layout Will Be Like And What Props I'd Like To Use, I'll Make A 2D Overhead Layout Drawing And Then A 1 Or 2 Point Perspective Drawing Based On The 2D Layout Drawing. Best To Have More Reference Than You Need Rather Than Less Lol. Most Of The Props I'll Decide To Use Probably Won't Make It Into The Final 2D Layout Drawing. Oh, And, I Suck At Drawing, Hence The Reason Why I'm Separating The Final 2D Renders Into A Layout And A Perspective Drawing... I Can't Really Draw Props From Perspective. Who Knows Though, I Might Draw Something A Little Extra.

I'm Doing Pretty Okay With Modeling The Gun In Max, Should Be Finished Modeling And Texturing By November 29th. I Want This Gun To Be A Major Piece Within The Scene. Guns Kind Of Started The Whole Plot Of The Story, So I Guess It's A Cool Little Easter Egg Lol.
