David Bowie - Head Sculpt

This project was originally done as part of a competition at my university, and was based around the works of Leonardo Da Vinci - the project could be done either in 2D or 3D, so I decided to make a 3D model and try to make it look like a sketch. The image above has been altered since the original in order to add more colour to it, as well as to take away elements that I don't think worked as well as I wanted.

I chose to model Bowie's head for this project due to how much influence his music and other works had on me as I grew up, and decided to use it as a way of honouring that. It was also an opportunity to try my hand at modelling an older face which I hadn't attempted until this project.

This process image shows the original version in comparison to the newer version. In the original, I included some of Bowie's lyrics but written backwards in reference to the way that Da Vinci used mirror writing in order to write notes.

Left: Low and High poly - taken in Zbrush, with the head's retop done in Maya. I encountered some problems during the process of retopping the hair, which I have since learned from.
