The Carapazón
This project was made for the polymer course to familiarize us with the concept of thermoforming and all the processes that come with it (type of mold, materials, etc.).
Rooftop cargo box made with the process of thermoforming.
When we started the project, we wanted a design that will be ``out of the box``, so we thought about an animal shape. We made many researches of a turtle's shape, the constraints a rooftop cargo box can have, what's the best material for an outdoor purpose, etc.
Our main problem was to design the top part (the shell), in the beginning we had bigger and more spikes on the shell. However, with that many spikes, we thought it could affect the material resistance, so reduce the number ans the size of it for four spikes.
If we would re-do the project, we will surely think about the ergonomic part of our design. The design is uncommon, but we need to think about the impacts of it for the environment. Such as the cost of the gaz that a car could waste.
This project was made with Pablo Romereo Reyes, we modeled it together.
