Painted Wings
A tranquil plat-former using watercolor and inspired by New Zealand nature.
Painted Wings was made as a prototype in second year for a mini production. The brief was to make something native and in watercolor.
I put it here if anyone would like to play the game -> https://skyward-games.itch.io/painted-wings
The game was made stylistically using digital water color simulation (Rebelle software trial) on each texture. Mesh was made in a general pipeline with either a seamless watercolour texture or sometimes modeled around the texture itself (leaves, shrubbery mostly).
The mist effect was an adaptation from Unreal's fog sheet and I used to it convey not only the death box, but the height of the level up in the canopy. God rays were also used in this fashion.
To achieve the paper effect and toon style I used a combination of post process overlays with textured paper and AO based outlines.
Coprosma berries were used as a thematic collectible as it is the natural food of the Hihi bird.
To the right shows an adaptation on the ponga trees that I used as inspiration to form a unique canopy for this prototype.
