Plastic Jellyfish

For my entry I decided to come up with an idea for an animation that highlighted the plight of sea turtles ingesting plastic bags and create a piece of concept art to compliment the brief.

Concept: Nipper, a young turtle, lives in Turtle Paradise - an underwater sea cave located off Australia's Great Barrier Reef. He lives an idyllic life, surrounded by family and friends. The water is crystal clear and teeming with colourful marine life. Every year the sea warms and the jellyfish arrive. The turtles gorge on this feast of their favourite delicacy. This year something is different, strange "jellyfish" start appearing earlier than normal. The turtles who eat the "jellyfish" start to get very sick. Can Nipper save his family and friends from the plastic jellyfish.

I started by doing some research and putting together a reference/inspiration board.

I then composed some thumbnails and added tone to my favourite.

Final concept painting
