David Meszaros - 2019

by dawem on 30 May 2019 for Rookie Awards 2019

I am an aspiring young artist, eager to learn and full of passion. I am in my second year of education, I would like to share some of my work with you, that I am proud of. (Car on the cover image is a Mazda 323f from 1993, which I modeled using 3ds Max, rendered in Arnold)

Round of applause for our sponsors

Here is a collection of some of my works from this year. Starting with Betsy the crop duster, a classical asset remake, using today's pipeline, inspired by the 2006 game, Daxter. I am an aspiring beginner, with 2 years into my education in 3D design and game developement

Betsy is a sentimental family heritage for Osmo. As seen in the game ‘Daxter’ (a sequel to Jak and Daxter), this GRAV-class flying crop duster is a centuries old machine, with a noble past. It is a twin engine, tri-rotor hovering vehicle, designed to carry unreasonable amounts of bug spray in it’s bottom tank - arguably a piece of junk - according to Daxter.
Model and animation made in 3ds Max and Zbrush (high and low poly), baked and textured with Substance Painter.

Some of my game assets, created using 3DSmax (low poly model), Zbrush (high poly model) and Substance Painter(textures).  A Craftsman toolbox from the 60's that can be found in many garages across America, and a Hartmann blood pressure monitor device from Germany.

These are my environmental design works from this year, I am learning to use Unreal Engine 4

Architectural visualisation:

I imagined a middle class penthouse from the 50's, a basic living space for a young couple. I am a fan of galleries and roof windows, I combined that with the aesthetics of the 50's, and gave it an organic wood finish. Would you want to live here?

Tiling materials created using Substance Designer. Rendered out in UE4.

What is a crashed french Spitfire fighter plane doing in the jungle, impaled into the remains of a once rich colonial mansion? I don't know, that is up to the script writers of course! Basic geometry was created using 3dsMax, materials created using Substance Designer and Painter. Rendered out in UE4.

'The shrine of Tortoise'

In Greek mythology the literature piece 'Aesop's fables' tells the story of how the turtle got it's shell, depicting the Tortoise, who denied invitation to the wedding of Zeus with the sole reasoning that she preferred the comfort of her own home. So Zeus harshly punished her by making her bear the burden of carrying her house for ever and after.

My diorama depicts the ruins representing the once Tortoise's home, in the middle lays her shell, where Zeus made her live until she died. Aesop's fables is laying at the side of the shell. This place is a tombstone and altar for the ones believing in how the turtle got its shell in Ancient Greece.

I only started learning 3d and game development 2 years ago, but I truly love and enjoy what I do. I hope this is reflected on my work as well, I know I am at the very begging of my journey but I am enthusiastic and looking forward to the future. Thank you for checking out my profile, and good luck to all of you out there.

David
