Murmur is a video game adaptation and interpretation of The Whisperer in Darkness, an H.P. Lovecraft novel. In love with Lovecraft's writing and cosmic dread, I was enthusiastic to adapt his work. I set it in a near future where the Earth would be devoid of any water, scientists and pioneers traveled to Mars in the hope of survival. Breaking from the known victorian era and adding my own bit to the story. A week project with Olivier Plazas feedback.

The World

After fleeing from the Earth, humans on Mars perfected a system with different factions, keeping order and everyone safe, gathering resources to live for the next day and exploring every corners of the red planet.

The Tech

Set in a not-so-far future, technology isn't groundbreaking or more advanced than today's standards. They possess a network infrastructure to connect all the outposts in the Outerlands. In the novel, Lovecraft uses the difficulty of physical letters back in the 20th to create tension between characters, not knowing whether or not they survived and waiting for the postman.


Primarily focused on transportation and protecting precious resources against possible hazards, they developed countless containers and tracks for every possible landscape or weather.

The Worldbuilding


Building ( a part of ) a world is a difficult task, and keeping everything together isn't easy. I tried to think of details that add to the lore and the authenticity of the world, it can also make the work easier for 3d artists and animators. How does my helmet work? Is there a hierarchy among guards? These questions define the outline of the world and help me construct the different designs.

The " Crabs "


It wouldn't be a Lovecraft story without a suspicious figure lurking in the shadows. The outer world species or crabs as I call them is a species living temporarily on Mars. They don't care about humans as long as they don't interfere with their plans, described as " A sort of huge, light-red crab with many pairs of legs and with two great bat-like wings in the middle of the back " inducing fear among anyone who put his eyes upon them.

Arabian Lights is a school project, we had to create concepts for a game and then a game design document with the mechanics and the art. There was a given theme " Be the Elite troop of the Grand Vizir,  fight Djinns and purify the lost villages ". I was in charge of the environment and props of the project.

Set in the 17th century while the Ottoman Empire was in control of a good part of Europe and the Middle East, there was a handful of biomes and environments to pick from. I choose a typical Moroccan feel for the village, with the narrow streets and oppressive walls. We thought the design with the game mechanic, allowing the two to coexist and setting limits for one another.

The Djinns, the main enemy of the game, would be invisible. The player relies on the Light system, he carries a pocket oil lamp, light grenade, and a torch. All infused with a unique powder which when set ablaze would reveal the Djinns. The game is a 3rd view tactical RPG, precise moves, and flawless execution are required to navigate through the decaying city and monsters. 

" The seed, deep in the mud and dirt, buried underneath dead corpses and rotten bark, its root deep in the soil, it will rise you shall see, rise upon this world, and it will crush it." Pine the blind prophet

PERMAKULT is a world of greed, wrath, and agony, where nothing last but can never end. Plants lives, mutated, deformed, battling each other every day of every life they live. The world is chaos and pending its fate, one side believe in a Messiah a golden seed that will save and cure every living creature, the other one believes in a seed that will seek the end of this world, putting an end to it.

Xeros, from the desert tribes nothing else than a warrior. The Twins, cursed to roam the garden, collecting lost souls and taking care of them until something or someone can cure them. Pine the blind prophet, a mouth full of hatred he's announcing the end of the world. And The Eye, lone wanderer of the scum lands, she reads the fate in the sap of plants.

The Golem


Protecting the sacred altar, made of clunks and rocks, rusty and mossy. His only friend is a crow, helping him to keep people afar. 

The Hollow Tree


Central point of the desolated lands, its a place of trading, meeting and a refuge for the lost.

Valkyrie is a small project of a character who would live in the Arcane world ( Riot - Fortiche ).
