A whimsical collection of mischievous and good-natured characters, an engaging environment, and a peculiar prop showcasing cherished moments from some of my favourite student projects.

'Delusions of Grandeur'

The theme of this character study is 'Delusions of Grandeur' and shows Arnold admiring himself in the side mirror of a scooter. Mirrors and reflections are not new ideas depicted in visual imagery. As early as classical mythology we are introduced to Narcissus, an attractive young man who falls in love with his reflection. Arnold is a modern Narcissus with one difference; he is not half as handsome. The visual elements are used to dramatize Arnold's distorted self-image. The image light-heartedly warns against an obsession with oneself. It holds up a mirror for the viewer and prompts reflection on what is true, false and important in life.

Julia

This sassy lady's character creation forms part of the student short film, The Present. 35-year-old Julia is John's better half. She is bold and imaginative and believes one can achieve any goal. When the going gets tough she is satisfied to rise to the challenge. Although she is loaded with confidence; don't trust her cooking abilities. Julia is a true powerhouse for whom happiness lies in the joy of accomplishment.

Reini: Character Bust

Reini, is a young man in his mid-twenties. He grew up in the 1800s, an exciting time marked by discoveries and inventions. Reini has a creative mind and is desperate to do something unique in a world where all has been done before.

The Greatest Thing

The saying goes: "(Something) is the greatest thing since sliced bread." Then I suppose the invention of the bread-slicing machine must have been pretty great. I wrote a fictional story of how I imagine the bread-slicing machine was invented. The prop design was inspired by the story.
